I recently stayed at Forest Retreat Campground in New Caney Texas. The campground rules allow one to wash his RV at the site, but does not allow washing of toads or tow vehicles ( dumb rule). I make it a practice to obey the rules at campgrounds where I stay, so I washed my fiver myself, but took my tow vehicle to a commercial car wash and paid $30.00 to make her look good. Two days later I awoke to find a fine black ash covering both my fiver and my tow vehicle. It was so bad, that I couldn't see out the windshield of my Dodge truck. So I broke out the water hose, and rinsed this mess of both my fiver, and my tow vehicle. Management and staff then decended upon me indignant that I had "washed" my vehicle on their premises. An arguement ensued which I felt was ridiculous since I was finished with my tow vehicle. I will let you guys judge whether I was wrong , but I felt a little flexibility was in order since the ash coating occurred while parked on their property.

I have decided not to ever return to this campground because I find management more focused on enforcing rules than on taking care of guests needs. I also find management and staff to be unfriendly towards guests. I have only stayed there because my wife likes the asthetics of the park, but now I have reason to overrule her. I don't nornally post much on this site, but thought I would relay this info to any travelers who might consider staying at this park.

rvskipper,

Those are some strange rules. You can wash the large vehicle but not the smaller one!? And you can't "clean" you vehicles to make them safe for the road?

I detest places that place more emphasis on rules than on helping their guests! No matter how nice the place I make it a rule <G> to not stay there again.

And I agree with Dobie Lover, please post a review on RV Park Reviews.

A thought occurred to me that perhaps the campground is actually trying to make accommodations for their guests. The tow vehicle & toad can be moved to a car wash & cleaned there -- a fiver, not so easily.

There have been many parks where I would have been more than happy to drive the vehicles I could to a car wash if they would have allowed me to wash the more-immovable fiver in place.

I lived in the Houston area for nearly 60 years before fulltiming. I return periodically for doctor stuff and to visit family. I know that water is very cheap in the Houston area so it is not a matter of cost. Even if it was, I would gladly pay $5 - 7.00 for the convenience of washing my vehicle myself. No, I have dealt with these people more than once and they are not flexible. They have an 11 MPH rule for the campground , but they zip around at 25 to 30 MPH in their carts ( not golf carts) with scowls on their faces. They do not know how to talk to people. They are nice when taking your money much like a car dealer is, but have no use for you after that.

My pet grieve with the Trailer Life and Woodalls ratings is they do not test the friendliness of a park nor the quality of the electrical service you are paying for. Both of these things are much more important to me than bathroom and shower cleanliness.
