We are traveling up to southern Colorado from Phoenix next week just for a few days. Thinking of heading towards Creede. Any campground recommendations would be appreciated.

We generally enjoy state parks and are not really looking for resort type ammeneties, great views and space are preferred.

Thanks in advance

You did not give any detail about your route. Canyon De Chelly National Monument is in Chinle, AZ near US 191. As far as I know the campground is still free (no hookups, but water, toilets and a dump station.) http://www.nps.gov/cach/

Mesa Verde National Park is along one potential route. http://www.nps.gov/meve/

If you were to go across northern New Mexico on US 64, there are state parks in both Colorado and New Mexico around the Navajo Dam. US 550 would then take you from Farmington, NM to Durango, CO.

The San Juan National Forest has a number of campgrounds between Durango and Creede.

Given the size of your RV you would be wise to check on the size of the state/National park sites.

Hope you have a great trip!

TCW, thanks for the great info.

The National forest campgrounds are of great interest and their website is very useful.
Hadn't really thought about the route up there, just figured we would start out in Durango and head east.

We have never been to Canyon de Chelly so may make a good stop on the way up if it's not too hot.

This trip we have to travel without the toad so just looking for a great view, walk the dogs, catch up on some reading and escape our 110 deg weather.

Cheers,
