Anyone looking to camp for a few days, a month, or even for the summer season in Eastern Ontario, there is a great little municipal park about 10 miles east of Corwnall, Ontario, right on the St. Lawrence River. The park is called Challotenburg Park. It is about 70 miles for Montreal or Ottawa. There are basic sites, 20 and 30 amp electric (no full-hookups). The monthly rates range from $375 for basic to $575 for 30amp electric. The seasonal rates--mid may to mid Oct, are $935 for basic and $1100 for 20 amp and $1200 for 30 amps. Just thought I'd pass along the find. My wife and I may consider it when we get our motorhome and have to keep working in Cornwall for a few years still. See you down the road.

I'm sorry, but with all due respect, that sure doesn't sound "affordable" to me.

Affordable really varies with the area, that does work out to just under $20 per day for the 30 amp sites. I'd hate to see an expensive park there!
We tended to look for quiet out of the way places that had rates for 30 amp sites closer to $10-12 per day for the monthly rate, $300-360. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Stanley P. Miller, Stan, E-Mail: skp-forum-01 at stanmiller.info |

Hi folks. I know it is quite a bit higher than SKP rates and other good deals in the US. But it really is one of the cheapest campgrounds in Ontario, unfortunately. Most 30 amps sites around here are $32-$40/day, and the monthlys are around $710 or more. So I guess relative to those numbers, it is a bit of a bargain. But believe me I know it is much cheaper in the states, that's why I can't wait to get back on the road and travel in US again. Even the gas, as high as it is now, is still almost $2.00/gallon cheaper. Thanks again for feedback, and see you down the road.

That does seem like a lot, but we found the eastern areas to be more expensive generally than the Rocky Mtns. We are staying in CO Spgs, CO at a commercial cg that charges $350 - $400/mo for full (W/S/E-50A) hookups, but it has no amenities other than a basic playground. There is lots of hiking, abundant wildlife and beautiful views of the Garden of the Gods. Obviously, this cg is usually full in season.

For the Northeast and Canada the price is inexpensive. Starting in the Northern Virginia and including PA,MD,DE, NJ,NY, and New England the prices are much higher then south or west campgrounds. Since our home base is Maine we dry camp to get in and out of the area. FYI $40-50 per day is not unusual with close sites and 30 amp electric.

Then come to western Pennsylvania and New York. While looking for a home, we've been staying in beautiful places that have been very reasonable--way below those prices!
