Charlie60,

It is a bit expensive since the owner ups the price for "events" like the balloon Races. And it is all blacktop but does have shrubs and small trees throughout the park. It is just north of the area where the balloons take off. The year we were there the wind brought many of them directly over the park! One landed just across the street from us. Pretty neat stuff.

The name of the park is The Shamrock. It's been a couple of years since we were there I assume it is still there. Even though I don't like the gouging the guy does we'd stay there again.

From our cg log
quote:
NV; Reno; Shamrock RV Park; 775-329-5222; Exit 71, US 396 - Several miles north of I-80; Decent enough park, many pull thrus though only about 50’ long. Lots of bushes dividing sites such that if you have 0opposing slides, you won't fit in the site without one slide in the bushes. Full H/u. (2000)

NV; Verdi; Gold Ranch RV Park; 775 345 0556; I-80 Exit 2 - 10 miles west of Reno; Newer RV park associated with fuel stop and casino. Very nice park. Level paved long pull throughs with full hookups and instant phones. Lots of shade and nicely landscaped. Local & 800# calls free. Nice Laundry (2003 & 2006) Boomtown also looked OK

Hi Charlie,

I usually stay there at the Boomtown RV Park when I visit Reno.

Depending on how far you want to commute there is: Carson City, Fernley, Minden, Fallon and Lake Tahoe all with RV Parks. All are a bit of a drive, although Fernley isn't bad 'cause it's a stright show down 80.

My I suggest a Casino parking lot?

Avan suggested Gold Ranch RV park at Verdi. We have used this for the air races in September. Works well for us and just a short jump into Reno. Nice sites.

RV Park Reviews looks to have a pretty good rundown with links to their nearby cities reviews. Reno Sparks Area RV Parks at reno.com has a contact list. A I'net search will likely find you some good resources as well.

Do keep in mind that the town books up early for these events so you need to make reservations early!

About 30 mi north is the Pyramid Indian reservation. There is a park at Sutcliff or you can dry camp at several spots around the lake ($11/night fee).

Washoe Lake State Park and other camping spots are described at Destinations for Washoe County or on US 50, CA 89, I80 and other nearby areas.
