Finding a Dr can be a challenge, we generally go by word of mouth or mostly our insurance company's list of member doctors.
IMHO the only way medical costs are going to come down is if we receive an estimate before any service is provided whether we have insurance or not and shop around. (911 excepted) We need to be proactive with our health care, just as we are when shopping for another product or service. I just read this article about Doctor's rating websites and thought it may be of interest: http://tinyurl.com/4puzfs |

My DW was recently diagnosed with a disease (she prefers not to elaborate) and the local doctor discussed the treatment and prognosis. When we asked about a second opinion he suggested Mayo Clinic. We traveled to Phoenix. Wow what a difference! Mayo suggested a radically different treatment with a much improved prognosis. The Mayo Clinic is more expensive and not covered by some insurance co. but it certainly was worth it to us. Sometimes you get what you pay for. That said, without good insurance we couldn't have done it. It would have taken a BIG savings account to pay for their treatment.
