We would like to switch our home base address from NC to New York, but my need for a personal health insurance policy is the sticking point. I have a policy in NC that's pretty comprehensive and costs about $330/month with a $2500 deductible. No dental or anything fancy, but good copays, etc.

The trouble is that it looks as if New York health insurance will be far more costly if we buy a place there as a base. We're having a lot of trouble getting information out of agents, etc, so I'm hoping that there will be a few people on here who buy their own insurance and know something about costs. We've found out about the mandatory HMO prices by the county, which strikes us as weird, anyway. But there must be another way. Is there?
