Recently, while on a road trip to South Dakota and Wyoming, some fellow RVing friends and I had the pleasure of enjoying the brand new 11k walk in Buffalo, Wyoming. If you are ever in this area I urge you to take the time to do this walk. You won't be disappointed. It starts by winding through the historical streets of Buffalo and continues along Clear Creek Trail with the Big Horn Mountains in the background. The halfway point is the beautiful and well maintained Veterans Home of Wyoming, the previous site of Fort McKinney, where you can take a break and get a snack before heading back downtown for dinner at one of the many outstanding restaurants including the historical Virginian, located inside the famous Occidental Hotel were the likes of Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, Calamity Jane, and Buffalo Bill Cody have all spent time. There are some good ice cream joints around too. We stopped at the one near the start/finish and it was fabulous. The following info was provided by the Buffalo walk host, Lois Petersen.

AVA and other interested walkers:

Stop by Buffalo, WY, to walk the AVA sanctioned Clear Creek Trail (May 1- Sept. 30). This 5K/11K trail features mountain vistas and brings you face to face with the Old West.

Buffalo is along the route to other fabulous AVA trails including the Hot Springs Trail in Thermopolis, Devils Tower Trail near Hulett (both in WY) and those at Chief Crazy Horse Monument and Mt Rushmore in SD. So plan a route that takes them all in. For more information, contact Buffalo Pathfinders at (307) 684-9160 or lois.petersen@gmail.com

.
Counts toward the following Special AVA Events:

American Authors/Literary Landmarks,

Pony Express,

Museum Walk,

Railroad Heritage

Veterans' Memorial

Walking Courthouses in the USA

The AVA (The American Volksports Association) is basically a non-competitive walking club that sponsors walks all over America. The Escapee’s BOF group, The Rainbow Rovers is affiliated with the AVA. The normal walk is 10k (6.2 miles) but many clubs offer variations, including shorter routes and some do have biking events. Please click on the respective links for more information on specific clubs and what they offer. Happy Walkin’ ’n’ Rollin’.......mike
