I know nothing about satellite tv hookups. I have a Kingdome satellite and a Winegard switch box in my motorhome. I want to record on one channel and watch another. I have two tv's.I don't care about HD and have analogue tv's. Can the satellite tuners also act as the digital tuner for OTA broadcasts. Can this be done? Seems Direct and Dish have only sales people, not people you can ask and get answers from.

Welcome to the list.

No. The sat tuner brings in only the sat signal from your sat antenna. Your Winegard switch box determines whether your TV is receiving a cable/sat/or OTA antenna signal. You will need an additional digital tuner for each analog TV IF you want to watch OTA channels on it after Feb 2009. If you watch only sat or catv, you won't need an additonal digital tuner.

I believe one way to record one channel while watching another would be with a satellite DVR receiver. Perhaps someone with a DVR receiver could confirm this.

My Winegard switch box has three blocks of settings for front TV, VCR & rear TV. Assuming the VCR has it's own tuner, I would presume I could record one channel on the VCR while watching another on the TV. I would presume also that you could record one channel on the VCR (viewable on the front TV) while watching another channel on the rear TV. I have not tried either of these in my RV, but have done both in a house.

Many, but not all, DVR receivers will allow you to watch one channel and record programming from another. You may be limited, however, by your Kingdome. I understand that the typical dome antenna has only one LNB, and can therefore only receive signals from one satellite location at a time. Both satellite TV providers use multiple satellite locations to provide their programming. Assuming that your dome has only one LNB, a multiple tuner DVR would only be able to allow you to view and record simultaneous programs if both of those programs are being beamed from one or more satellites at the same location.

Your ability to view different programs simultaneously on both TVs would be subject to this same limitation.

It looks like my Dish 622 will tune off the air channels, don't think it will record them though.

Any dual tuner DVR will let you watch and record two satellite channels if it is connected to a dish that supports multiple satellites. No idea what happens when you hook one to a single sat dish but working well isn't going to be an option.

It looks like you could watch or record a sat channel and watch an off-air channel but I'd have to mess with my setup to test it and I really don't want to do that.

Our KD has a duel LNB. I use DireTV DVR and can record and wathc something else or record two differnt programs at once.

You need the main and aux. cables to be run from the KD.

Yes some of the DirecTV HD receivers can do that. But you said "I don't care about HD"

Since you do not want HD. DirecTV SD DVR receivers will allow you to watch one channel and record programming from another after you have two cables ran from the dish to the receiver.

You will only need to get one satellite(101) for all the programs you can receive & record from non HD programs.
