Hi,I hope that I have the right forum for my question...
What kind of GPS System do you have and are you happy with it?
We have had the Garmin Street Pilot 2620 for a few years now and lately we're getting wrong directions and are losing the signal much more often.
I wonder if it's possible that the "sending unit" or "receiver" is getting old and weak. Unfortunately, Garmin's Support is not as good as it used to be and I can't ask them.
Have bought the Nuvi760 today at Costco at a good price but found that this unit won't let us switch from Car to Bus to Truck, etc. This is very disappointing, because we use the bus feature when driving with the motor home.
We don't have any experience with any other GPS's. We're not interested in all of the other frills as long as it has a good screen, strong signal, announces street names and can switch between various vehicles.
Do you have a GPS with those features??

Thank you.

I have the Garmin 750 and only problems have been the operator. Set it for shortest vs. fastest and those type of things.

I have found that it does not always take the same route with the same settings though but I end up at the same place I wanted to go to.

I am not sure on the car, bus, truck feature. Only thing I can do is change the Icon.

Let me suggest you do a forum search on GPS systems. There have been many discussions about them over the past few months and would give you a background for asking specific questions.

I use CoPilot which runs on my laptop when in the truck. It has all the bells and whistles including RV mode which allows you to specify minimum height limits.

I also use a Nuvi 200 on my scooter where I can't realistically use voice. It is a great little GPS for the money.

I have a Garmin nuvi 750 and am pleased with it. I have gotten some strange directions from time to time but I try to minimize this problem.

I had been using Microsoft Streets and Trips prior to the Garmin and I still use S&T to plan my trips. Between the two of them I generally get to where I am going with little stress.

Being able to find places (food, fuel, Wally world) on short notice is worth having the Garmin.

Thank you all for writing.
George, the Car-Bus-Truck,etc. feature is what the Garmin Street Pilot used to have. We used to switch to "Bus" when in the motor home and this routed us on only the streets which could be driven by bus. The same with the truck route, etc. When the setting was car, we went through all kinds of smaller roads and saw some great country.
Unfortunately, they did away with that feature.
Also, Garmin's support is not as good as it used to be a few years ago.
Will be looking at the Sony GPS which Costco now carries tomorrow. Sony's tech support is great (at least so far) Had a chat session with it this morning and was impressed.
Will have to decide between the Garmin 760 and the new Sony NV-U83T.
I will look for the GPS forum.
Again, thanks for your input

I use a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx and interface it with the laptop using Garmins nRoute software. We wanted a GPS to use while on the road but still be able to use it for hiking and biking.

If you go to the garmin web site under FAQ you will see that the streetpilot 7200 and 7500 still include the truck, bus option as well as a 7'' screen this unit is designed for rvs

We have the car-truck-bus option on our Garmin and it still tried to send us down the sand in Cannon Beach. A useless feature, at least on ours.

I went to Garmin.com and could not find the car-truck-bus feature listed for the Streetpilot 7200 or 7500.

We have tried the new Sony GPS from Costco and had to return it.
It's a good looking unit but the navigation part was very disappointing. It took a very long time to "recalculate" and it couldn't find even find several smaller but old established towns. It also wasn't very accurate.
We have finally settled on the Garmin 680 and it still has the Auto/Bus/ Truck, etc. feature, which has helped us in the past.
The Garmin 680 is the one we finally settled on and are happy with.

Delorme works fine for me. It runs on my laptop and we love the large display and flexibility. I have a laptop table installed in the truck plus a small 150 watt inverter. It also give me the flexibility of connecting my Verizon USB air card and having Internet access on the road. We have even used a small FM transmitter that plugs into the headset port on the laptop. This allows us to connect to a radio station over the Internet and listen to it over the truck FM radio.
