Well, Don Bradner is the administrator of the Datastorm site and and Bill Adams has a Satellite business and does installs all over the place. I can only go by their expertise in this case as they do the work and are constantly going through the annual training for Motosat, Directv, and Dish. They have not steered me wrong in the last four years so I tend to believe the info they put out. As far as I am concerned they are the experts. You can believe what you want, I am just presenting the info as I get it. If you want to get the info from the horses mouth join the Datastorm users group and see for yourself. Here is the link http://www.datastormusers.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/index.html

we got our DNS waver last Oct. and had no grief from them about HD and we have both east and west DNS with HD

You are the exception if you are getting DNS HD from both coast.

Everyone else that I know of with DNS get both coast in SD but only one in HD not both. And which coast you get depends on mailing address.

We have the 5LNB HD dish at the moment but when they get all the stuff shifted and the Sats consolidated and go back to a 3 LNB in the next year or so we will go back to a 3 LNB dish

If and when they do go to a 3 LNB dish. Your 5 LNB dish should still work fine. And see no reason there would be to buy another dish to replace the 5 LNB one. But on a tri pod a 3 LNB may be smaller & lighter.

I am not planning on replacing my roof mounted 5 LNB dish when & if they go to 3.

By the way I don't think Don B. does any annual training for Motosat, DirecTV or Dish.

And B. Adams I don't think does any annual training for DirecTV or Dish.

I’ve had a similar challenge with Dishnet. My contract was expired so I would think I could just upgrade to a VIP722 DVR receiver to go along with the MotoSat 1000 I just had installed. It seems that Dish would only allow me to upgrade in Dallas, TX where the Dishnet was activated. It had something to do with an installer agreement. My installer in Sacramento, CA had to open a new account in my wife’s name and cancel my original account. The only other course of action was to transfer my account from Dallas to Sacramento which would take over two weeks.

My mistake Biker56, I have HDwest DNS, but both coasts on regular. I will keep my 5 LNB dish till they get fully operational on the 3 LNB system again then I will request an "upgrade" dish. I don't mind the 5 dish but it is a storage pain even disassembled. The old dual LNB dish can be stashed in the closet but the 5 LNB dish is almost the size of my Hughes dish. Two tripods cause a small storage problem too but that isn't that big a problem as they go in the truck bed nicely. I really like the tripods because I can almost always get on birds unless we are totally tree locked. It just takes a bit more coax..

I'm getting ready to order the HD package - but just read on the 'other' forum about how the current configuration (lnbs I presume) will be "obsolete" in one year. Further details pending...

It sure would be nice to not have to lug around that Slimline dish. Just put the 5lnb on the house, keep my DNS (PLEASE don't take that away 'cause i have a house) and just get my usual 8 lousy HD channels with the 3lnb until the configuration changes.

All this talk about HD. Digital I can understand as the airwaves are full, but who cares if television is in HD. It's a TV for cryin out loud and people are being charged $9.95 for something they can get for free on OTA antennas. I'm watching SD tv right now on a HD ready tv and the picture is great. People should boycott the HD push. In my opinion, it is just not worth it.

And you are certainly welcome to your opinion. However, my opinion differs greatly. The quality of programs that are recorded and broadcast in HD is incredible. I have DirecTv and almost never watch broadcast/network TV so OTA channels are useless for me. I mostly watch Discovery, National Geographic, History Channel, Animal Planet and best of all, HD Theater, all in high definition. I often watch something in HD when there may even be a program I would rather watch on an SD channel, just because it looks so much better. I can't wait until everything is HD.

Watch a football game in SD, and then in HD. If you can't see a huge difference it may be time to have your glasses prescription checked. Big Grin

I was at a State Park Campground in WV. last week for 5 days. I could pick up 0, not even one OTA station analog or HD. Frown

But with my $9.95 HD DTV I was able to watch over 20 plus programs in HD including NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox stations. Big Grin

Let me know when you can get the Speed, TNT, ESPN2 NASCAR races in HD from OTA antenna FREE. Roll Eyes

I respect your opinion but mine happens to be different. $9.95 is less then 2 1/2 gal of diesel a month. And I don't think you can buy one NASCAR race ticket for $9.95.

I can see 9 NASCAR races in HD during the month of July for my $9.95. In my opinion it IS worth it.

You probably have your problem handled by now. But for others info, you can have a system installed by either DTV or DISH, at a campground. We simply changed our billing to electronic payment.

Then, we changed our address with customer service at DTV to a campground. Then ordered an upgrade, and they sent the serviceman to the campground. We did the same with DISH when we needed to replace a receiver that went belly up.

We have received service in several areas of the country when traveling, just by changing the address at customer service each time.
