This is true. I've used a computer for both business and fun for so many years that I assume everyone has one. I met a fairly young retired man and his wife a month ago, he was about 15 years my senior and his wife close to my age. We had an interesting conversation and I was going to give him my email and web addresses so we could stay in touch. You guessed it, no computer -- and not from a lack of funds, it's just not something he or his wife are interested in having or using.

Where are the computers in the US:
US Census on Internet Access and Computing

As the units get cheaper and each subsequent generation is educated with computers the number of households without computers will be the exception.
How many grandparents have computer because they want to keep in touch with the grandkids? Grandkids are powerful motivators.
No grandkids here, we bought mom a computer to e-mail us when we went full time 7 years ago. at 80 years old her hobby is creating animated graphics.

I read an article a few years ago that stated 80% of retirees lived on about $22,000 a year. That figure may have increased somewhat by now, but as a new full timer, my wife and I have a budget of $2000 a month for traveling around the USA in our 27 foot motorhome for two years. Since this is our first year, we do have a slush fund of $10,000 for improvements and unexpected developments along the way. We have actually averaged $2500 a month because of the improvements we have added to our RV over the first nine months including such things as a canoe and kayak for our new custom made canoe rack on top of the rig.

My own research has shown that the majority of RV full-timers spend about $3000 a month. We expect to make our budget of $2000 in month 13.
Currently we spend $500 for food, $500 for gasoline, and $300 for camping sites to give you an idea of our major expenses. Traveling from Oregon to Maine via San Diego to New Orleans has taken mucho fuel but it's been a blast. Next year we plan to settle down in campsites for a week or two to save on fuel, relax, fish and canoe more and drive less. Hope this may help with your research.
