When we full-timed back in 1991-1996 we travelled the Natchez Trace from Tennessee to Louisiana a couple of times. It was a wonderful route, with three free campgrounds and the beginning, middle and the end. Does any body know if the parkway still offers these campgrounds, and if there is a charge now, how much per night?
See you down the road some day!

The free camping still exists. Additionally, there are state parks close in MS. Full hookups for $13.50 per night, sometimes on the water. Great bargin.....

Hey, thanks for the reply. I know my wife and I really enjoyed the Trace back in the 90's and I look forward to travelling that way again.
See you down the road!

Natchez Trace is a great drive, slow and relaxing. The campgrounds are still there although some of the sites are small.

The road surface is very good now also. Watch out for the locals, they do not all observe the 50 mph speed limit. Everyone should get the chance to travel this beautiful road at least once.

We loved the Natchez Trace. Here is a a link to a story I wrote about our trip. Every RVer should drive it at least once. We can't wait to do it again.

Great article Nick!!! We certainly enjoy the Natchez Trace in the spring blossom time and the fall color time. Good pedal biking too.

Will be doing part the Trace from Nashville to Bay Springs Lake in MS early next month. It's part of our annual trip south for my family reunion and our Tiffin appointment in NW AL afterward.

We live about 20 miles from the trace at hwy 50 if any of you want to stop in. Plenty of parking in the back lot.

We use the trace lots of times for MC rides and we always obey the 50 mph speed limit. It's a federal ticket if you get pinched.

We just drove the NTP a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time. Gave it 3 days from Natchez,MS to Nashville and should have allowed at least a week to do it justice (if not longer). The campgrounds are free and great. However the middle one doesn't have any level site's and they almost all set on a slight angle. Merriweather Lewis sites all look tight but there are several that had 40DP parked in them. You just have to move forward or aft to find the spot to put your slides out near the trees.
Enjoy the trip...we certainly did.

A reminder that State Parks in Mississipi recognize the Golden Age Pass. So half price was very nice when we stayed in S/P travelling through there and also in Louisiana.

Safe travels,

You can park in the parking lot at the top of the hill if necessary. Great view too!
