When stopping for a night at Walmart, everyone talks about going in to ask. Who do you ask? A cashier as you check out or do you go to the customer service counter?

Thanks

We usually stop at the customer service counter, and ask for a manager or ask who can approve our staying over night.

Of course, when we stay at WalMart, which isn't often,it usually costs us more than a regular cg.

safe travels,

The cashiers don't have the authority to make the decision so we go to the customer service counter and ask to speak with the manager. Our request to stay has never been denied. In fact, they always tell us that they'll advise the security guard to keep an eye on our rig as we sleep.

Occasionally, if we come in late and there are already several rigs parked, we don't ask. We just quietly park in an out-of-the-way area at the edge of the lot, walk the dog and go to bed.

Sometimes the line at customer service can be long enough to make you want to move on.

If you have the Wal*Mart atlas, you can call ahead or call from the parking lot.

Most of the time there are some RV park in one area, so we usualy park in that the same area, but not to close so we don't disturbed anyone, When there is nobody we ask the boy that looks after the grocery kart where is best area to park our Motorhome. In some places there is someone responsable for parking, so he would be the right person to ask for permission.
When no overnight camping is allowed, there is always a NO OVERNIGHT CAMPING ALLOWED sing.

Knowing that there would be "No overnight parking" signs posted if it wasn't allowed, and knowing that the WalMart corporate policy allows it unless otherwise forbidden by local regulations and having heard that store managers often resent the interruptions every time an RVer wants to stay overnight on their parking lot, we usually just park as out of the way as possible without asking anyone.

We don't put out slides, jacks are never down, etc., but see no reason to ask at WalMart. At any other store, we ask at the Customer Service desk. If they find it necessary to consult the manager, that's fine, but we don't specifically ask for the manager.

I always ask to speak to security. Then I point out where I will be and what time I expect to leave. I then asked if s/he is working all night. If the answer is "yes", I ask if I may purchase a coffee or soda for him/her. I have had, at times, the good fortune to have the security patrol car parked very close to my rig.

We usually look up the phone number from our Walmart Locator book and talk to a manager. That way we know if they allow overnight stays before we get there. But we also ask at customer service too, if we forget to call. John

Howdy!

We check the GPS which will usually have a phone number and call ahead. This helps to find out if they permit overnight parking. If we can not we go to customer service and ask to speak to manager. If they are real busy at the customer service I would ask the person greeting persons at the entrance to speak to the manager as they usually have a radio to contact them. The manager or personnel usually always advises where to park (never around the loading dock area). A couple of times we have been advised by the security to move to a different location than what the manager stated and did so.

On my trip out west (now) I stopped once at a Walmart. I asked the manager for permission. If I have to stay at another Walmart on my return I'll do like the two answers on this thread, that say, call ahead. I only stay at Walmart when I can't find a campground or it's very late. I don't view Walmart as a free campground but am thankful when I do need to use them.

Why, Wal*Mart of course. Big Grin

It's a Rand McNally road atlas that includes a Wal*Mart and Sam's Club directory in the back.

They are usually on a revolving rack somewhere in the store. $5.97 for the '07 atlas.

We usually check with the Customer Service Desk, but on our last trip found it easier to call. In most cases, we were told yes by whomever answered the phone, but they usually put the manager on to verify that it was ok. We did make sure to get the names of the people we spoke to in case security came by. Fortunately, this never was a problem. Everyone we spoke to was very nice, even the one time they said it was not permitted.
