Tell me about the Tower on 12th. street.

That is a campground convenient to Linda's mail service in Sioux Falls. Something not needed by SKP mail service users.

The rest of it sounds like a typical foulup from dealing with a DMV office not familiar with RVers. Kellie is good at sorting this kind of thing out and if she can't kicking it upstairs for some higher level support hasn't failed yet.

Glad I ran into this thread.
I am planning to go to Livingston within the next few weeks and acquire an address. At the same time we plan to change our address for our drivers license and then acquire fulltime insurance under that address.

This could put a very large kink in my plans.

Is anyone having problems at the DMV in Livingston?

Thanks for the info.

Nobody at Livingston is reporting any problems, clerks at other places don't do much with the non-commercial license classes other than the standard car ones or folks using PMBs and can take some educating.

Which is why you'll see recommendation after recommendation to go to Livingston for anything more complicated than a same-class renewal.

You can renew your TX DL online. For 7 years, too

We're in a similar situation as you, TXBobcat. We are planning to spend some time in Livingston in November to take care of residency and DL changes.

There's no problem here in Livingston... the local DPS folks are quite familiar with Escapees and the Rainbow Dr address. Smile

I renewed my DL (Class A non-CDL) via mail within the last couple of months without problems. It was due to expire June 27. You can do this one time. Then have to do it in person. Can not do it with a CDL.

There is no problem I know of in doing this, IF you file ALL the forms properly, and supply a copy of your SS card.

Stan,
I can't kick much further because I am upstairs, sitting in the office next to our wonderful Executive Director, Angie Carr. I believe she would think I had really lost it if I started kicking. Big Grin

Jack,
Thank you for posting! I happened to use you as an example yesterday afternoon when I was speaking with this particular SKP member. Hope you don't mind!

Hey Everybody,
I am going to make many calls today to get this problem solved. I will post when I have completed, I promise!

Hugs,

Kellie

Kellie,
It is good to be used as a positive example for a change....not the normal case with me, I suspect. Frown

Kellie,
There ya go again, solving problems. While a case can be made for folks being only happy when unhappy, and another that all should have a gov't agency solve their problems, few expect that standard of problem resolution from the forums online of whatever stripe.

So here ya go doing the research and making it happen.

Don'tcha know that in most places that raises the bar for all the others in the organization, and creates resentment?

You're lucky you work with Escapees inc. They actually value those who raise the bar. Wink

(Or perhaps we are lucky to have you?)

Jack I did a formal survey about you and your posts here with all former and current Escapee members present and voting and 100% voted you one of the best and most respected posters on the forums, along with a great group of others.

(Of course only one respondent to the survey, me.) Big Grin

Finally, finally, finally....I have some answers. Of course, as you can tell it has taken me all week to try to get in contact with the right person in Austin to get an answer that is correct.

First...according to the Texas DPS website and a very nice person in the Austin DPS office, I learned that only Class C drivers license are available to be renewed online. If you have a non-commercial CLASS A or B, you have to renew in person. I did ask why some members (like Jack, for example) were able to renew through the mail, and I was told that it was because of error.

Second...the unacceptable address. According to Austin, civilians who work in the Department of Motor Vehicle offices alongside the Department of Public Safety, do not have any idea who we are and what we do. I spoke to approximately 10-15 different people over the past week, and they all said, "Huh!". This morning I spoke with a captain of the complaints division, who is kind enough to look into this matter. The problem lies where members are using the "PMB." Many people look at this address as a drop box or a post office box. All the people that I have spoken with have been informed that we are a United States Postal Service - Commerical Mail Receiving Agency and legally, a physical mailing address. I am hoping to hear from the captain no later than next week. Hopefully, today but I know that is rushing things.

Well.....I know it is not good news but it is not bad news either. Roll Eyes We live in an RV world of revolving change. Go Figure!!!!

Take care everyone and have a super weekend! If you are in the east, south or midwest, stay cool! If you are in the west, enjoy!! Wink

Hugs,

Kellie

According to the Texas DPS website the holder of a Class A 0r B non-CDL can apply for a drivers license renewal by completing a form. This is what the site says.

"Operators of Class A or B vehicles who are exempt from the commercial Driver License Act may renew by mail. If you qualify for a class A or B non-CDL, please complete the CDL-2 (Exemption Certification) form."

To get the form go to:
Exemption Certification for Class A or B Non-CDL
Friends of mine were in Alaska last year and they used this form to renew their Class B non-CDL by mail.

Thank you Norm,

Ya know, maybe I should have listened to first person I spoke with this morning from Austin. The guy told me about this form but wanted to make sure that everything was on the up and up so he transferred me to another individual (who knew nothing). Yet, I still had to go through four people to clear up all the information Roll Eyes The last person I spoke with (a higher ranking officer) told me that you needed to renew in person. Well, so much for phone calls! I am going to email Austin DPS. I will get to the bottom of this! I promise!

Jack,

Did you complete this form whey you mailed in your renewal?

Big Grin
