In the latest issue of the Escapees magazine in the SKPs Park Chart section; KOFA ko-op."no large 5th wheels with freightliner trucks allowed" Also "propane is sold to park residents only".Hard to believe those folks who passed these rules belong to the same Escapees club I belong to!

They don't belong to the same club you do. We only stayed at Kofa once and never went back. Of the co-ops it was the least friendly and frankly not social to non-owners. The most friendly co-op we stayed at was The Ranch in New Mexico.

Ditto, been there once and will never return. Don't have my current magazine but don't think it is a good idea in these litigious times for for an organization to be associated with an entity that excludes a specific brand of truck "Freightliner" what about International, Volvo, Mac, UD, Peterbilt, Kenworth etc? It is a shame the Escapees Club can't divest itself of that location. They are not able to get managers for the summer 08... that is a telling statement no one will work there even for a "free" site, there have been negative posts in the past so it doesn't appear to be getting any better. As fuel prices continue to rise, fewer RV'ers on the road and possibly declining Club membership is it good business for the Escapees to be associated with this park?

I agree that the Yuma coop is difficult to deal with. Been there, done that. We were treated so rudely on our two attempts to stay there that we would never even entertain the idea of going back - and that was before we had the rig in our sig line.

But to defend them just a little in this ONE instance....you need to understand that it is a tight park, and maneuvering big trailers with big tow vehicles in there is both difficult and can tear up the streets. And, yes, a large MH has the same weights on the axles as our big trucks (more in many cases), but since it is far easier to get into a tight spot there is not as much static turning of the front tires - which is what rips up the roads that are not designed for the "heavyweights". So I do understand the logic a little.

I urge you all to give Kofa a second chance. We spent 2 weeks there recently and it was great. There are new managers and management. They are aware of the park's previous reputation, and are making every effort to make things better. We had no problem or questions about our 5th wheel or truck. Give 'em another chance, you may be glad you did.

Well, Caroline, you apparently just "squeeked" in...cause if the original post is correct, no big trucks are allowed.....

Guess I'd have to hook my 21,250 lb Royals to an F350 if I wanted in there - which I don't.....Smile

Just got my May/June 2008 Escapees Magazine and on page 103 KOFA Ko-Op it says

"no utility trailers or large fifth-wheels with freightliner trucks allowed"

Since it is lower case I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they were just using the term "freightliner" to describe large tow vehicles and not specifically excluding Freightliner Brand Trucks.

It does give the appearance that not much thought or care went into their park description thus not encouraging visitors. To achieve their goal of communicating that they are not Big Rig friendly or that they are protecting their property they could have stated "older park limited size sites and access call for availability of sites or more information".

jimd40,
Didn't know there was an age exclusion but I am thinking in 87/88 it was not Escapees Affiliated?

Keep in mind that the co-op parks are owned by the residents and as such they can make any rule that they wish. Like Jack, I have been there and am pretty sure that he is correct on the reasoning. I also doubt very much that they intend to let owners of Volvo's or Peterbuilt's in but not Freightliners. That is just how they stated it.

When we were there the park was populated mostly by much older members who do not travel any longer and who mostly want left alone. While that may not be very friendly, if we are fortunate all of us will one day be old and probably may of us grumpy as well. It is just part of the reality of life.

Good travelin !...............Kirk

Please do give every park another chance! They deserve it and so do you, especially if you like the area.

Sometimes you have management that is good or not so good; however, an off-day can hurt even a good manager. Yeah, I know, some of them are real sticklers but I have to admit sometimes I am, too. Big Grin

Here is a little information regarding the Co-Ops: The SKP Co-Ops are self-governed by a board of directors that are elected by the members. All the Co-Op members share in the financial responsibilities of the Co-Op; for instance, operating expenses are shared equally among the membership.

As Jack stated previously, this is a very tight park so, I for one, am happy that they post this in the magazine and/or the travel guide. As for the rules, those are posted by the Co-Op Board of Directors.

I have to admit I started this reply at 9:00 AM and was interrupted a couple of times, so there a couple of people that beat me to the punch. Wink

What is the purpose of the Escapees Affiliation with this park? KOFA appears to be a separate entity altogether from the Escapee organization.
The link http://www.rollinrollin.com/kofa from the Escapees site is:

Not Found The requested URL /kofa was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. Apache/2.0.46 (Red Hat) FrontPage/5.0.2.2634 mod_ssl/2.0.46 OpenSSL/0.9.7a Server at www.ROLLINROLLIN.COM Port 80

If an Escapee park is under performing does the Escapee Club intervene with guidance? OR
If Escapee club monies are invested in this park the return may be greater in another more positive performing park.

Are their any KOFA members reading this?
It would be helpful to have input in this discussion from your board of directors that are elected by the members or members sharing in the parks financial responsibilities.

Seems I remember that KOFA was one if not all the reasons Co-Ops ceased and Rainbow Parks were born.

We've stayed at KOFA every late fall when we travel east, for varying times 2 days thru 1 week. The propane restriction, I believe, is to keep non-RVers from coming into the park and buying propane at KOFA's prices.

We've bought it there several times during our stays.

We've used their pool, RO water, and even got mail delivered there ONCE.

Socializing? Dunno, never tryed.

We've stayed at Kofa many times, liked it enough to put our name on their waiting list to get a lot 8 years ago, and we're now #1 and holding...we've
always found friendly people there and look forward to helping to make the park even more friendly. Try the park again, you might find it's friendlier than you heard.

Jack,
We got lucky and got right into a nice site that is owned by a former MDT BoF member. Of course our little International just thinks he's a big truck. Now your Volvo---- that's a big truck! Wink
