As we all can see the price of gas and diesel is going through the roof. I had the next 9 months entirely mapped out, however I have to go back to the drawing board due to the extreme diesel increase. I suggest we find away to share the prices we are seeing as we travel, on the forum. I don't know how to set up a template that we can use, does anyone have ideas? I can tell you the Diesel In Livingston, Tx Friday was 3.89. On the way to Lake Charles, LA last Monday I did get 3.78 at Flying J, but every were else on I-10 going in to Texas was $3.89-$3.92. I haven't been out today, I'm afraid to start up the F350! I'm stocking up on things here in Livingston, so I do not have to make as many of those 24 mile roundtrips to Walmart!

Cookie, sounds like a good thought. There is a thread that folks are posting the current prices of gas and diesel. It is in the sharing the fulltime lifestyle, the original post is by 'mona and bill'. Do you feel we need something better, is that what your proposing? george

Diesel at the Love's in Quartzsite today (3/15/08) is $3.819 (consumer price...price listed on the large sign that can be seen from the freeway is the commercial price which is $.08 higher).

Diesel at the Chevron is $3.799.

Every place else in town is higher.

Cookie,

The gold standard for fuel pricing is Flying J. It is rare that anyone beats their price, particularly if you join their RV club. The beauty of Flying J is that their fuel prices nationwide are available on their web site at:

www.flyingj.com

Murphy Oil, the Wal Mart fuel station, is sometimes within a cent or two, if you use the shopping card. Most everyone is more expensive. There are a few deals available with special credit cards, but still, they usually don't beat Flying J.

I've done some polling, or template construction as you call it. Since fuel prices are so volitile, a poll would probably just mislead. It would certainly have a short "half-life."

Like you, we are being a lot more careful, and we are finding some ways to reduce the number of miles that our vehicles move. For those of us who have some limits on our budget, increased fuel costs just means something else has to give. I've found some very nice shirts at Goodwill Big Grin

Flying J, Petro, TA, Pilot, Loves, all have websites with their fuel prices at their every location throughout the US.

It would really be kinda duplicative (is that a word?) to start a thread on this.

I bookmark several of them that I patronize and look at them each time I log on.

Really depressing reading.

To those who might not yet be aware of this, Flying J has stopped giving the $.01 per gallon discount with the use of their RV Real Value card unless you purchase at least $10 inside their stores...at either their restaurant or in merchandise.

If you spend $10 per month in restaurant and merchandise purchases, you'll get a $.03 per gallon discount on gas (100 gallons per month limit) and a $.01 per gallon discount on diesel (300 gallons per month limit). The more you spend inside, the greater the discount on fuel. See their website at http://www.flyingj.com/programs/rvclub.cfm

I use Flying J for diesel 99% of the time. But their new deal of spending $10 in the store to get a $3 discount on diesel back in one month. Just doesn't add up to me to be a good deal.

And I aways use less then 1/2 of 300 gal. per month. Then I would get back $1.50 for my $10 spent. Frown

I will still buy my fuel from them because they are usually lower in price then other stations in the same area. And with the RV card you will still get the cash price when using a CC even if not getting the 1 cent discount.

Cookie I use a spread sheet to track fuel price and gal. I will use on my upcoming 5 month summer trip at the Flying J stops I will use.
It has been going up for a while as you know.
Per gal. Average by my tracking.
12/22/07 $3.16
01/09/08 $3.23
02/23/08 $3.46
03/08/08 $3.76

I have no idea what it will be May 1st when I go on the trip. Probably closer to $4

I am not going to change my plans for the trip. But I will tell my son that his inheritance will be a little less. Big Grin

I WAS unaware of that change Linda. Thanks.

The way I interpret the site you quoted, they still give the cash price even with card use. If that much is still true then Flying J is still going to be the "Gold Standard."

We are in Central Baja (with the Mexican Connection – Baja Si group) and we paid $2.00 American dollar per gal. for diesel. BUT – that is honestly the only bargain down here!

Side note - last I heard, Petromex was still the high sulfur diesel. You can not use it in our "new" US diesels. That will probably start to limit tourist travel there

Here is an interesting set of facts. It can be verified through the Department of Energy website. george

WHERE TO BUY YOUR USA-GAS

WHERE TO BUY YOUR USA-GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON--
Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it.
It might even be good for us!

The Saudis are boycotting American goods.

We should return the favor.

An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS.
Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into
the coffers of Saudi Arabia Just buy from gas companies t hat don't import
their oil from the Saudis.

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up
the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my
family, and my friends.

I thought it might be inte resting for you to know which oil companies
are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern
oil.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:

Shell.......................... 205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco.........144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil..............130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway..117,740,000 barrels
Amoco..........................62,231,000 barrels

Citgo Gas comes from South America, from a Dictator who hates Americans.

Do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION!
(Oil is now $90-$95 a barrel)

Here are some large companies that
DO NOT import Middle Eastern oil:

Sunoco................ 0 barrels
Conoco................ 0 barrels
Sinclair................ 0 barrels
BP/Phillips......... 0 barrels
Hess.................... 0 barrels
ARC0................... 0 barrels

Also: Pilot, Flying J, Love's, RaceTrac, Valero

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy
and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much
they are importing.

George1, Thanks. The only USA diesel we purchase is from Flying J. The balance we cross the border since we are very close to Mexico. My last fill-up in Nogales last week was $2.00/gal. With the aux. tank we rarely have to purchase USA diesel.

George

Correct me if I'm wrong..Citgo aka VALERO.. ?same dictator. Good info on all the Middle Eastern supporters.

If there are any Citgos left watch for the name change to Valero. He owned others also that the names have been changed or are being changed to Valero, the only one I can think of at the moment is Shamrock.

I have bookmarked all the webpages that have been recommended to me.

Thanks

Happy St Patricks Day!

No, there's no connection between Valero and Venezuela. Valero is a San Antonio based, publically traded (VLO, traded on the NYSE) refiner. It's only been in the last few years that they've been retailing some of their production under their own name, instead of wholesaling it all to other retailers or to unbranded distributors. It's most likely that many retailers, aware of the "stigma" hanging over the Citgo brand as a result of the Venezuelan association, have instead turned to Valero, a domestic company, for both branding and product supply.

Just to clarify a post above.....

The Murphy stations are not owned by Walmart. Murphy Oil is out of El Dorado, Arkansas. It is a company on it's own.

Walmart does have a few stations on the Walmart lots, but they will be clearly marked as Walmart.

Murphy honors the Walmart gift card for a 3 cent discount.

Btw, I work at a Central Arkansas Murphy and my DH Manages another Central Arkansas Murphy, so If anyone is ever traveling this way, I'll be happy to give you the prices. We are both usually the lowest price in our area by 3-10 cents a gallon.
