Does anyone know of any fulltimers who are entertainers--ie singer/songwriters who travel and sing at campsites in exchange for camping?
By the way, it is so good to be part of this wonderful extended family of SKPs and fellow RVers.

I have been in campgrounds that had various entainers, but they were volunteers of some sort, grounds keepers, guards, front desk and so on. They didnt get their site because of their talents. george

Dear Lord, lest I continue my complacent way, help me to remember that somewhere, somehow out there a man died for me today. As long as there be war, I then must ask and answer am I worth dying for? Elenor Roosevelt.

Back in 2005 and 2006 there was a guy who was on the discussion forums (I can't remember which ones) and he sings for a living while fulltiming. He has a website and I think he also sells CDs from there. Anyway, he seems to do quite well and usually stays, for free, in the most classy and expensive RV resorts. I just can't remember his name. Heck, sometimes I can't remember mine either.

We've met a couple different folks who did this, or tried to. One was a family with several CDs out. They usually did not get a free space, but were allowed to perform and then sell their CCs after the show. They did okay, but about all they did was cover camping fees.

The other was a husband and wife team, very good singers, but they only got a half dozen or so campgrounds to say yes in over a year on the road.

Over the past several years several musicians have posted on the forum of their desire to earn their way by exchanging their talents for a variety of necessities & for money additionally. It has been awhile since they have posted either success or less than success.

Probably you will do as well writing songs as a FT RV'r as you will living in a brix & stix home, a hotel or a motel. As far as trading your talent for a place to park your RV.... give it a try. You will or you won't be able to do what you desire.

Now if you are a player as well as a songwriter, perhaps you might consider playing your own work as a volunteer first. If they really like your performance they might consider an exchange for your continued stay?

I would not expect to make my living as a full time RV'ng musician unless you are interested in becoming a pop star. If that is the case you might want to consider a different life style than hanging out with people who are at least older than 50?

Whatever your choice.....be passionate & focused intentionally & keep on keepin on. Good luck!

Hey everyone, thanks so much for your very very valuable insights and feedback. I am a singer/songwriter and the main reason I do what I do is for the love of the music and the people I have a chance to sing for. Even if I never earn any money or even can exchange camping privileges, I just want to sing my songs for whoever will listen, and if I'm able to help myself keep going by selling a CD here or there, that's all gravy. I just want to hit the road singing! Thanks again!

SONGWRITER......

Come on down to The Ranch....I'd love to hear you sing your songs..... I'll even play along for you if I have time to learn your songs. Might even sing along with you too!

Maybe you would even consider staying long enough to go with me to one of my weekly gigs/jams?

At one of the state parks where I was camphosting we have entertainment. One of the campers joined in with the singing and she was a joy. She sang a song she wrote, had a beautiful voice. I suspect she was a professional entertainer. But to hear her voice carry thru the trees on a cold frosty night was pure delight......

There are many full-time RVers that are also entertainers. I have met full-timers that sing at state or county fairs, large non RV events (like RAGBRAI - a bicycle ride across Iowa), large RVing events, even smaller local events, etc. They may be out there, but I have not yet met or heard of an RVing singer that was able to exchange singing for camping. Some RV Parks do provide entertainment. If you could find a list of just those parks you would have a better chance of a barter. However, you would probably do better if you contacted them well in advance.

Hey, thanks again for all the feedback and encouragement. As I said earlier, I am going to keep on singing my songs and believe that somehow I'm going to be able to travel and fulltime one day again...SOON I HOPE!
