Has anyone worked at the fast food places like McDonald’s or Burger King, etc? I don’t know what they pay, but it seems it could be a good way to pick up some bucks as you travel about. I figure with their normal turnover they would be thrilled to have someone who knows the system and is upfront about being temporary walk in looking for some work.

I'll be watching this thread with interest. My wife has been working in the food industry the past 8 years... supervisor and manager at Quiznos, co-kitchen manager/banquet supervisor at a convention center, cook at an Italian restaurant and an Applebees. We figure she'll have it easy finding a job on the road when we start fulltiming but haven't tried it yet. It's hard work, so I'm not sure if she'll want to continue with it, but it'll be an option.

The starting wage for cooks and fast-food employees in Gillette is about $9.50/hour, but most wages are high here. That'll vary from town to town depending on the availability of workers.

Two winters ago the Hardees (or Carl's Junior) in Quartzsite had a help wanted sign in the window, offering $11 an hour to start
