How far will it be from the proposed gathering site, this January, to the nearest, free, dump for portable honey wagons and water station? I have a wagon that I can tow behind my car but hate to have to pull it too far.

To the best of my knowledge, the closest free place to dump and get water is the park in Blythe, California. I certainly would not want to take a blue boy that far. We have used the Pit Stop on highway 95 on the north side of town. Last January I paid $8 for a dump and fill. I am sure the fuel for a trip to Blythe would cost more than that.

There is at least one Honey Bucket truck that comes around every so often. There's also a fresh water truck that makes rounds in the area.
The secret is watching for them and catching them when their close to your location. Otherwise write the phone number down from the side of the truck and call to make an appointment. Their not the cheapest but sometimes it's worth it. Bob, WA0MQE '04 Pace Arrow 36ft Workhorse Chassis |

I recieved an email from the Class of 06 that said there was a "portable dump wagon" only, with fresh water station, at the LaPosa South area. No coaches, just portable wagons can dump and time waiting is brief compared to driving the coach out to a dump station. That is what I am looking for. I don't want to drive out just to dump. My wagon can probably handle speeds up to 30 mph but I dont want to pull it too far at that speed. We have never been out there so don't know anything about the area except what I can get off my GPS program and the websites. We will be in our GMC coach and it only has a 30 or 35 gallon tank. That is black and grey combined. I think I could last two weeks but not with Teri. Maybe 4 days, max.

Yes, water and dump are available at La Posa LTVA, but it is not free. You need a permit. From the BLM web site:
FEES / PERMITS REQUIRED: A Long Term Visitor Area Permit is required from September 15th through April 15th each season. The cost is $140.00 and is valid for up to 7 months. A Short Term Permit can be purchased for a 14-day stay. This permit is $30.00. Roger, K4RS SKP #75942 On the road, living the dream... Thanks Roger. We plan to get a permit while we are there. Hope to see yall there.

You'll have to go north on US95 for 3-4 miles to get to the La Posa South dump stations. Not something I'd recommend with a wagon that limits you to 30 MPH - you'll get run over. Not to mention running the risk of getting a ticket if the trailer is not licensed for on road use.

Yeah - go 30MPH on 95 you'll have traffic stacked up for miles behind you. It's two lane.

Well, this is a pretty good home made rig with air tires. I think I better stay off the road with it though until I get a suspension system designed for it.

You can drive from the Roadrunner BLM area at mile marker 99 to LaPosa LTVA on the Old Yuma Road. This route runs parallel to highway 95 and many use it to avoid traffic congestion going into town. This may be a good way to take your blueboy to the dump station without traveling on the highway.

Armin Hachmer,
The gathering is usually held at Mile Marker 99 about 6 miles south of Q. You should have no trouble recognizing the place once you get within eyesight...... you can see all the RF in the air! <G> HamRad Montana 3295RK pulled with a 2002 Ford SD F450, CC, long bed, auto. Quartzfest 2008 is scheduled for Sunday January 20 through Saturday January 26 which coincides with the major winter events in Quartzsite.
You can enter the Roadrunner BLM area off of Highway 95 at the 99 mile marker (Pipeline Road), but you will need to cross a couple of deep ravines. There is a much better way. Slightly south of the 99 mile marker is 53rd Street (also known as La Paz Valley Road). Travel west on 53rd about a hundred yards and then turn north at the first entrance. Quartzfest is located approximately 1/4 mile north of the camp host. Lots of info is on the web site: http://quartzfest.org/html/main.htm Safe Travels...
