We have a 38' 5'er and are considering adding a small freezer to give us more storage for frozen food.
Has anyone done this? Can you give us any advice?
Thanks

5 years ago I bought a 'HAIER" brand 5 cu ft "Upright" model from Lowe's for $129.99.

I have it sitting in the living room area next to the front door where it doubles as a Television stand.. Smile

The "Chest" type freezers are great but not versatile like an upright model is..

It is a 110 volt model and not 12 volt. (I don't trust the 12 volt models)

When you are traveling and don't have a 110 volt power supply, it will keep things frozen for 72 hours ..(3 days).. if the door is kept closed.

I love the one I have, it's amazing how much stuff you can put in it..

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.
The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

We have small upright, bought from Home Depot, probably the same one John has, just a different brand.

It sits in a corner of our living room slide, we've had it for 4 or 5 years and have not had any trouble. It doesn't move around when we are traveling.

I agree with John, it is amazing how much it holds and how long you can keep stuff frozen when the power goes out.

Safe travels,

Judy

We also have a small upright freezer. Only regret is that we did not get a self defrost or at least a pan or whatever to catch the water run off when defrosting.
Also you might want to consider where it will ride when traveling and if it would interfere with slides.
Ours rides fine but we must really Squeeze to get by it with the slide in.

We don't have a freezer, but when we were campground hosts, one of the other hosts had one. It was a small chest type with a lock. They kept it outside. To move, unload freezer, lift into RV, reload freezer; then do the opposite when arriving at destination. They were hosting 1-2 months at a time, so didn't involve too much labor.

The RV beside me a few days ago had one installed in a storage bin (tall one) with a slide-out drawer. The only reason I knew what it was (looked like a larger size of the little plug-in cooled/heated 12 volts that some truckers use) was I saw the wife getting meat out of it.

We know a couple that carry a 300 pound capacity freezer and generator on the rear of their 5th wheel. He had a watertight vinyl cover made for both.

We bought our "baby" freezer in Quartsite several years ago. I don't know how I lived without it. We had already removed our oven as we never used it. I cook with my convection oven. Dutch build a slide out shelf in the old oven area and we added a wood framed glass front door. I just pull it out, get out what I need and slide it back in. Our works on both 12 volt and 110 so when we travel,or boondock it runs off our inverter. Hugs, Diana

So, if I sit and watch it for a while will it change while I'm watching? I like seeing all the different pictures of you but it sure makes me feel incompetent when I think how much time it took me to get up the picture of our sandcastle.

Nope, this one you have to refresh the page. Each time the page loads, it will display a random photo. I can do that since I have my own domain and can run a PHP script. Works great....I never thought about using it in here till everyone started teasing me about new photos. LOL!

We installed a 4.2 CF freezer in our Class C. We pop-riveted 4 loose pin hinges to the sides (careful... we drilled a hole thru the freon tubing in the sides had to buy a second unit) so that we could secure it in the old (enlarged) refer space (small 3.2 cf ref sits above the freezer). The freezer we bought thru www.compactappliance.com and the small refer we bought at Lowes. We full-time and I have decided that I need a bigger freezer (we buy large pkgs of meat from Sam's Club) and a slightly bigger refer would be nice. Sunfrost makes a really nice ref/fzr combo called an RF19 that I really want. Can't put it in the Class C... but it would be perfect for our next project.

compactappliance.com has a small "dorm type/size" unit that adjusts from a fridg to a freezer, along with several other type/size freezers.
