My (well, soon to be my) coach has gorgeous hardwood floors in the entrance, kitchen, and bathroom, but carpet in the rear bedroom and dining/lounge area. The hardwood is making it difficult for me to decide what the carpet replacement should look like. If I was doing the whole coach, it'd be a piece of cake--I'd go with rustic planks, but now I have to decide if I should a) come as close to matching the hardwood as I can, b) just pick the style I like even if it doesn't match the hardwood, or c) go with a tile look. The picture shows my options. Any opinions?

I like the 'country pine' best for a wood look and the 'chocolate' for the tile look because it has some of the green of the dinette and chair coverings.

Thanks,

Rae

Rae, would the new floor you are contemplating be up against the exsisting floor, or seperated by carpeting ? You don't say what the exsisting hardwood flooring is (light, dark ?)
I too like the chocolate, it looks very rich .

HJ, I put a picture of the coach flooring at the top left of the image I posted; it's a rich brown leaning towards cherry (not quite as red in real life as in the picture, but very close)).

The new flooring would butt up against the existing hardwood. I'm tearing out all the carpet.

Here's another shot of the floors:

Thanks,

Rae,
IMHO - I would go with the chocolate. It looks rich plus the green would pull it together with the existing color scheme. I would have them lay it so that the squares appear in a diamond pattern. That way the lines of the tile won't look mismatched with the lines of the existing flooring. Will also give a sense of being in a "differnt" room.

Well thats my opinion. Hope it helps.

HJ and fr8tshaker, thanks for chiming in! Between the two of you and my boss, that's three additional votes for the chocolate, so I guess that'll be it!

fr8tshaker, the diamond paper would have been nice, but it won't be possible with this product as it comes in planks (similar to laminate flooring).

Also, the coach doesn't really need to delineate separate rooms--it already comes with four distinctly separate rooms complete with doors! That's one of the many, many reasons I love this coach.

Thanks for chiming in!

Rae,

FWIW- The planks can be laid to give the diamond pattern.

Not without a lot of fiddling. It might be worth it in a large square space, but it won't be worth all the math for small, awkwardly laid out spaces.

Rae,

You are correct. It would take alot of "fiddling". Also more talent than I have. I am envious of the DIYers. I can always dream...

This product is called 'Allure' and is available at Home Depot. It's really easy. I did my whole mobile house with it. That's why I know I can do my coach on my own. I also know that the product will hold up to my lifestyle and is well suited to a house that is essentially a metal tunnel on wheels that experiences extremes in heat and cold, the occasional day of excessive humidity, and the sort of movement that comes from not having a foundation.

It'll cost me about 70 bucks to replace the carpet, including mouldings. Can't beat that!

Rae, two things on my mind:

1Smile I agree... go with the chocolate 'tile' look.

2Smile I don't agree: I just read your blog, and stopped short at your assessment of the tires on Miranda. You say they're nearly new. But, those of us with experience (hard earned in some cases!!) know that, even though tires have very little wear on them, if they're more than five years old, they can be sun damaged, and will need to be replaced. Believe me, if they blow out on the highway, as two of ours did, it's a scary, dangerous, and expensive lesson to learn the hard way. First time, we could be excused for not knowing.... second time, shame on us! Slow learners, I guess! I'm not saying that Miranda's tires are old, but this is something you'll want to see receipts for, if at all possible, so that you'll know when they were put on new.

Ok, three things:

3Smile Gads, girl, I'm proud of you for having the guts and ambition to set out on an adventure now rather than waiting til you're old enough to retire! Enjoy it, every mile of it, the best days and the worst! I like your writing style, too, so will look forward to finding new updates from your blog on my Google home page!

SKP hugs... Lee

Lee, that wasn't my assessment of the tires. It was the assessment of my RV inspector. He's been in the business for 30 years, has certifications out the ying yang, has given seminars all over North America, and has inspected hundreds of coaches. He said he was shocked to not find any wear on the tires besides what would be expected for the number of miles on them--no sun damage, no cracking, no spreading at the bottom, etc. The tires were put on two years ago or so and I have the receipts as proof.

So, another vote for chocolate. :-)

As for the adventure, I'm older in life experience than is the average 29 year old, so I think it's natural for me to feel ready for this now. Plus, it was my father's wish that I go have a great big old adventure. So, dad, this is for you!

The coach will be mine by next week. I'm so glad the hard part's done.

Over time they scratch and turn lite because of foot traffic. when wet or a drop of cooking or suntan oil and your shoe meet-you fall down-Do you have good insurance for broken bones etc?.....I'd suggest carpet if you are older also walk off mats are excellent for cleaning and slip resistance.....hey it's your money and bones......geofkaye
