I found the bags on Debbie Meyer's green bag web site. They have 10 medium and 10 large bags for $10 plus s&h. Seems pretty reasonable to me if they work. I bet I have thrown away $10 worth of stuff in the last month. I am not suggesting you buy them from the web site - this is just one source I found and I am not sure if the price is good or not.

Bananas is the only thing I put in the green bag and leave on the counter. I usually buy 3 bags of salad at one time and I dump them in one Debbie Meyers green bag, and it last 2-3 weeks in the refrigerator. Tomatoes, green pepper, squash, apples, oranges, & etc. will last a month or more, no problem. I have never used Ever Fresh bags, but they probably work the same way.

I just bought some bags at BB&B. How are you guys closing the top opening? They say don't use twist ties. I used some clothes pins but there could be something as good that doesn't take up so much room. BTW: BB&B has a box of 10 large and 10 medium for $10. They also have a 20% coupon they will mail you if you get on their mailing list.

Wandering One,

Thought I would like to try these out. If they really extend the shelf life of vegetables it's got my attention.

Forgive me for being ignorant, but what the heck store is 'BB&B'?
Thanks.

BB&B= Bed, Bath & Beyond---which happens to be the store where I purchased my D.M. Green Bags this week.
I have little confidence in what I see in any advertisement. However, I DO trust the opinions stated in this forum, so I purchased 'em.

OK, got a question. How are you folks handling moisture in the bags? Do you wipe it out every day? Ignore it? What?

We bought some at BB&B and every bag has moisture on the top side, every day. We've put a paper towel in the bottom side, and it doesn't seem to help much with the moisture.

Only 3 days now, so can't give a report on the effectiveness, but we do need some hints on moisture problems.

Saw Debbie Meyer Green Bags at Wally World in Pahrump, NV the other week. Of course we forgot to check the price. My wife gets brocoli at either Sams or Costco, which comes in bag with a trade name of BreathWay. She says that bag seems to work with the brocoli.

We tried our first box of Debbie Meyer bags last month. Our bananas build up moisture. But I just leave it.

Pears also last longer in the bag. The bags are reusable, but have to be washed in between since the bag absorbs the gas as fruit/veggies ripen.

That's not the easiest chore to do. But since we only buy once a week, on hot days we would run out because we couldn't buy enough to last the two/three of us.

I wipe the moisture out...think I read somewhere to do that. I hope that consecutive uses of the bags (for the same product) will help eliminate the plastic taste that the bananas seemed to pick up.

I bought a similar product at Dollar General for $5. The brand is Gourmet Trends Forever Green Bags. Box has 2 sizes... 9" x 15" (7 pcs) & 12" x 17" (8 pcs) with twistie ties. Box says "Every bag can be used more than 20 times". Box also says food should be dry before placing in bag & "If moisture has built up in a bag that had contained fruits and vegetables, just wipe the bag with a paper towel and keep as dry as possible.

You can also find the Debbie Meyer Green Bags in the outlet malls at a Kitchen Connection store.

I find celery and bell peppers keep best if wrapped in alum. foil. I think it was Good Housekeeping magazine did a celery test and agreed that alum. foil kept it fresh longer than other methods. Do the drug store wrap so it is sealed tightly.

So far my experience has been that summer squash has kept very well in the green bags. I read somewhere else that salad greens do well in the type of container that Costco sells them in. I know they stay fresh longer than the plastic bags the smaller quantity come in.

My question is: if you buy your bananas green should they ripen before you put them in the green bag? Will they even ripen in the green bag if they are green going in?

Thanks to this discussion, I bought some of the "Green Bags" and I'm glad that I did.
They really do what they have promised to do!

Hi, I am new to this forum, but I must get my two cents in on these green bags, They are great. For the past month I have been making Gazpacho which my husband is crazy about. Keeping all the veges that are needed has been wonderful in the green bags. They keep for weeks at a time and makes it easy to replenish the Gazpacho with fresh crisp veges. Yes, the problem child is the "banana". I too had trouble keeping it. But such a little situation I don't let it bother me. If you follow the instructions for the bags things should keep well. No wet food, keep bag dry inside by using a paper towel wipe down occasionally. Do not tie bag tight at the top just close loosely. Really they are the greatest money saver I have seen. Yes you can wash out, someone said it was difficult. Not so! Worth the wash. Good luck.

I was not going to buy the bags but found them for 9.99 at Wal-greens in Florida. What the heck. My o my everything has lasted at least twice as long. Bannans do get brown but are not, not mushy when you peel them. Bell peppers, strawberries, cucumbers, tomatoes are very very fresh even after 2 weeks. Just my 2cents.

I would not have tried the Debbie Meyer Green Bags if I had not read this forum. We are in Montana about 95 miles round trip to the grocery store and I wanted to try them out before getting here. They are wonderful. So much so, that I am using them as "thank you" gifts - we spent the night recently with friends in Dutch John (no bags) and had lunch with friends in Victor, ID (no bags). I am sending a box of bags to each for their hospitality. I know they will love them as much as I do.
