I wondered the same thing. Google is your friend. Apparently it's a large storage box that goes behind the cab and forward of the fifth wheel on a HDT.

Think dromedary, as in camel. Camel hump. Storage compartment on one's back.

You dont see them much anymore. Years ago many of the independant/owner operators used them for small expedite shippments they would deliver on the way to there trailer load shippment.I suspect when they fell out of favor and they were not used for freight anymore someone said , "Hey how about a bigger bunk?
Hence, the 200+" bunk was born, along with the modern day " Expiditer".

I know this is going off track, but interesting scuttlebutt. TSMT out of Missouri used to run droms all the time. They hauled explosives for the military. You can't haul the explosives and the detonators on the same vehicle, hence the drom box for the detonators. Not the "same" vehicle, but the whole load got there same time.

At least by shipping the explosives separately from the detonators it gives the driver a few milliseconds for the explosives to reach the detonators, giving the driver time to see his/her life flash by...

Someone shot into a TSMT truck near Springfield,MO and closed I-44 for weeks, blowed a 60 X 60 hole in the road. Makes you jumpy it does.
