Thought I'd say Hi! Was in the Coast Guard from 58-60 with some additional reserve time. Worked mostly navigational aids along the southern california coast.

Was during the hot part of the cold war so we spent a lot of time doing what was called ABC drills...Atomic, Biological and Chemical warfare. The rustbucket (USCGC Heather) I was on would have sunk if a BB had hit it and we all knew it.

Got special delivery orders to active duty during the cuban missile crisis in 1962 but, thankfully, they were sent to the wrong guy.

Eliot,
Welcome to the forums. Hope you enjoy the discussions, I don't think you will agree with all of the responses but you can believe that all responses are honest and meant to enlighten or inform. You have joined a great bunch of people who share a common interest. Thanks for the service to our country...the vets forum is great for those issues pertaining to vets so you are among brothers and sisters who also love the RV life.

Life is short - Enjoy It!
