Do you have to be 100% military disabled or full retire to use Famcamps? Thank you.

Short answer is that yes, those are two of the categories entitled to use the military campgrounds. The long answer -- and a much better one -- can be found on Larry Farquhar's excellent web site on military campgrounds at: http://www.militarycampgrounds.us
On the front page is a link to an article on MCG eligibility that will answer all your questions. Hope this helps. Bryan & Susan 2007 National Pacifica TE-40B |

Ray, how many other 35TMS's have you seen in your travels ? I saw one in TX last winter, and thats the only one. We love it, gotta full bathroom, and a big bedroom with a fireplace. They dont take reservations at Kirtland, but I called and the lady there said that they would HAVE sites open, she didnt say maybe or anything. Is that the info that you got from them ? Looken forward to seing you there. Where were you stationed at, I was in FT. riley KS for 2 tours, Boumhoulder, and New Ulm Germay, and Ft. Bliss, plus a stint in the Air Force.

The bases don't seem to have much interest in those of us who served if we didn't stay to retire. Of course, if you are some young kid that just started work for the DOD, they you get to use them!

Here is a post many will dislike.
Yea Kirk, you nailed it...... Being 100% disabled and used to (yep used to) use the fam camps, until I saw the light. If the fam camps are supported by the pxs and etc, why would anyone disallow any military personnel, even though they only spent their time in and got out? Why on earth does a DOD employee get the use of them over a war veteran, or non war veteran, who was not disabled nor chose to retire in the service? Just another case, in my mind, of not paying the proper respect to veterans that they so richly deserve. |

'bowtiepuller' -- you're right, I don't support your logic/position but support your right to speak your mind.

bowtiepuller - as usual, we chiefs stick together. Look at it from the point of view that if every veteran could use the famcamps then they could argue the same for the commissary, PX, healthcare, ad nauseum. What then would be the incentive to stay until retirement?
The line had to be drawn somewhere and the powers that be chose active duty, active guard/reserves, retirees, and a few others that qualify. I understand your point of view, I just don't happen to agree with it. Happy traveling. Doug and Cassi '05 Meridian 36G '99 Jeep Wrangler Saraha Libby and Rummy - Cav. King Charles Spanials |

FamCamp is an acronym for US Air Force campgrounds. The Army, Navy & Marines refer to their campgrounds as RV Parks unless they are in a recreational area then they may just go by the recreational area’s name.
One of the most misunderstood authorizations for military campground usage is the DoD employee. Even campground managers will often misunderstand the rule. Almost always DoD employees are only allowed to use a campground in the area of their employment. In other words, a DoD employee from NAS, Jacksonville, FL on vacation in TX would not be allowed to use the RV Park at Fort Bliss, TX. Only the base commander can decide which employees he/she will allow in their campgrounds. Only active duty personnel and their families have the RIGHT to use MWR sponsored facilities. All other users are given the PRIVILEGE. FastEagle Everest 363K 38' Dodge 3500 Turbo Diesel USN Retired DOD Retired |

Boy, you guys sure are being politically correct. LOL.
I understand the drawing of the line, but to allow a doder to use it, escapees me. And I camp at Camp Pendelton, so do doders from all over the u.s., BUT my buddy who travels alongside us all over the us, spent 10 years in the corps, 60% disabled, CANNOT. HUH? |

I am not sure that 100 percent gets you famcamp privileges. It will not get you on a MAC flight. I believe it gets you BX/Commissary and Medical only.
