Just read where Fleetwood is recalling 226 motorhomes built last year because of incorrect carrying capacity. If I read this right, they miscalculated the weight capacity of the tires and overstated the carrying capacity of the MH. Therefore, if you loaded the MH to the max according to the vehicle certification label, you would actually be overloaded which could lead to breakage, damage, or an accident.
Their solution: sending owners a new label with corrected carrying capacity. Now I am admittedly anal about weights; I surely would have taken CCC in account in my purchase decision. Getting a new label would in my mind be a very poor solution to the problem. Maybe it was only a pound or two difference, but this sure seems like a non-solution to the problem. My opinion only.... Of course, I'd prefer they corrected the problem to make the rig perform as represented when it was sold. But this will probably require a lawsuit or two. I guess it depends on whether the previously stated GVWR differs signficantly from the new value.
A while back Fleetwood sold some motorhomes with front axles that were overloaded when the coach left the factory. When they were called on it their "solution" was to put bigger tires on the front axle only. No change was made to the rear tires, since they weren't overloaded. So owners wound up with bigger tires on the front than the rear, which made the rig look funny and eliminated the ability to rotate the tires from front to rear. Lou Schneider #31721 |

When profits are valued more than customer safety thaen this is what we can expect. Fleetwood seems to be a leader is building junk (oops I should say sub-standard products).

Putting band aids on the problems seems to be the norm anymore. They hope the band aid lasts until the warranty expires.
