I feel a little dense asking this, but here I go. We have an used 5th wheel that has the BigFoot hydraulic levelers. Leveling is no problem, but how high do you lift your coach to reduce or eliminate the suspension bounce? I realize we wouldn't want to lift the wheels off the ground, but do you actually lift enough to take the load off the springs?

Thank you,

SmileLarry This is what I would do ...go into the refrigerator and with a level check the level of the floor of the freezer ...

If its not level then follow the instructions in the owners manual to re-level the RV...I have found that if the front jacks are low the system does not level high enough and you can get a little movement in the RV...

Also I have noticed movement when the hydralic leveler feet have sunk into the soft ground at some sites and this causes movement in the RV ...of course just put something under the feet to give it more bearing capacity and then releveling will fix that....JMHO ..Jim

Even if the wheels are off the ground, I get some movement in high winds and in the high speed spin cycle of the washer. A good tripod helps just a little.

My fiver is 24,000 pounds so it won't blow away but it still wiggles.

Larry,

I have BF too. And a heavy 5er with Mor/Ryde IS. IMO there is nothing you can do to make it as stable as a house. It is going to move "some" even with most of the load off the suspension. To me, it is no issue....you get used to it. Although we do not move "much".

Thank you all for your answers. I was just worried about stressing or bending the frame. I know RVs aren't "rock steady", but I felt we were getting more "bounce" than our previous 5th wheel, which I stabilized with scissor jacks. I will try your suggestions. Thanks again for your help.

Thank you,

If the jacks are mounted to the Chassis, once they are on the ground, the suspension is out of the picture. You will still notice some motion but if all 4 are down, no matter where there is downward force, it will run into the jacks.

The Escapees Discussion forum has moved to a new home! Please use www.rvnetwork.com to access the new forum, or click on the Discussion Forum link on any Escapees.com webpage header. Thanks!

All user accounts have been moved to the new board, but each user will need to go through the lost password process to re-activate their username. You will have to click on “login” and then on “Lost Password”. Enter either your forum login name or your forum email address. The forum will email you password recovery instructions. Follow these to get a temporary password, then log in and change your password to whatever you like on your profile page.

Once you are able to log in, you should find that all the current topics are where they belong, and you can begin learning about some of the new board's features. If you have questions, post them in the "Learning the new forum" area and we'll do our best to help. The new board is very similar in functionality to the old one, but some things will seem quite different at first. There is a pretty good help function on the new board. Just click on "Help" in the upper right corner of the page header.

In most cases, the best way to learn the new board is to experiment! If you are not sure what something does, click on it! You'll notice that we have created a test area where you can post tests to your heart's content. We have also created a “Learning the new forum” area so that users can assist each other in learning the new board.

All users will need to set up their avatars again. For those users that we host, there is an avatar set called “Old forum user avatars” that contains all of the custom avatars currently hosted by us. Just browse through it until you find your own picture, and select it. (Please don't select someone else's picture just to be cute!)

If your avatar is currently hosted somewhere else, you will need to have that URL available in order to set up your avatar on the new board. If you prefer to use a stock avatar, we have a large assortment of new avatars you can choose from in the avatar Base Gallery.

The old forum remains available for login. Even though there are no active or visible forums here, you can still log in and access your profile pages to recover any info you need. This old board will shut down permanently at the end of September.
