Hi, Gordon & Juanita - We're near you at Diamond M Ranch RV Park (27B, I think - look for the AK plates) till the end of this month. Sounds like you're having a great trip. We'd enjoy meeting you (and any others here in the area) to hear about your fishing adventures. Maybe we can live vicariously as we've been working Frown too much to get much fishing in!

Left Seward on wednesday.Stoney Creek RV park was the best we've had since the lower 48.Eagles and snow capped mountains out our front window.Went on a boat tour on sunday. We used our tour saver book again. It has paid for itself a couple of times. We saw glaciers calving, humpback whales and a ton of birds and sea lions.A lot of eagles and about a million Puffins.Even one that made a nice snack for an eagle.
The captain turned the boat off close to a glacier so we could listen to it moving. It was awesome.
Seward is a bit touristy thus pretty expensive. But is certianly a must see while here.Arrived at the Alaskan Angler RV park on wednesday in Ninichik. The park is okay as we have full hook-ups,wifi and cable TV.
We went halibut fishing yesterday and between 2 of us we ended up with 43# of fillets. We had fresh fish and chips last night for dinner[yum!].Our freezer in the basement has really come in handy.Several people are having to give fish away or ship it back to the lower 48 [whitch is very expensive]because they have no place to keep it.Looking foward to doing more salmon fishing soon.

Your boat tour in Seward, did you take Renown or Kenai Fiords? There are 2 in the book.

We're trying to set one up when our daughter comes in August and would like to go on the one you used, sounds like you had a great time.

Thanks,
Fred

Howdy!

Ian & Margaret, we haven't made any plans as to where to stay in the Fairbanks area. We do know we want to go to the hot springs, and the North Pole. We made reservations for the first time on our trip at Denali National Park. Hope to see ya down the road again.

Hi all -- just had a great visit (what a surprise to see them here Eek) with Mike and Mary, who turned up near us at Oceanview RV Park in Homer. We'll be here until Tuesday morning when we move to Soldotna and will be at Diamond M for a couple of days. We're loving Homer -- it doesn't hurt that the weather has been great and the light on the "ring of fire" volcanic mountains across the inlet is fabulous. There's a lot to do in Homer and we've even found a couple of good restaurants (I highly recommend the halibut fajitas at Don Jose and anything at Captain Pattie's -- try the Chardonnay blended with rhubarb!).

We spent a fun day with the Wishnies and we were just marveling at the fact that we have met so many wonderful people, mainly through this thread and the tentacles it produces through the blogosphere -- how far we've all come!

Chiefneon, let's keep in touch about Fairbanks -- as I said, we're staying in North Pole (we're a tad more structured than you are!!) but would love to see you somewhere along the way if you're in the neighborhood when we're there.

Looking forward to meeting some of you in Soldotna -- sounds like Diamond M is the place to be!! Cool

Margaret

The Santa Land RV park at North Pole is very nice place to stay. I stayed there two weeks. The people that operate it are most joyous and helpful. The showers and laundry are very clean, cleaned twice each day. They have free wash for your vehicle or RV. It is next door to the Santa Claus house. Pay for 6 nights and 7th one free.

Ian and Margaret,

We are staying at the River Terrace RV Park in Soldotna, space 151, until the 28th. Be sure to stop by and say hello if you get the chance.

Mike and Mary,

Thanks for dropping by to introduce yourselves! We hope to spend a little more time with you when we return south to Anchor Point next week. I have to get in place for the Silver Salmon run on the Anchor River after catching a bunch of nice Reds here on the Kenai this week.

Safe travels everyone,

Gordon and Juanita

Hi,
Has anyone taken a flightseeing bear viewing tour out of Homer? We are here for a while and are interested, however the offerings are too numerous for us to make a decision easily.
Looking for guidance from some who have done it already,
Thanks,
Fred

Sorry, Fred, I can't help with the Bear Viewing flights -- hope someone can. We've just arrived at Stoney Creek RV Park in Seward and, Mike, you're right -- it's a very nice park and, despite all the scenic trees and mountains, our Datastorm dish found a hole to peek through so we have satellite internet again! Cool

Hoping for good (at least clear) weather for a couple of excursions and our Kenai Fjords boat trip on Monday.

Gordon -- hope you top off that freezer pretty soon and can get back to sightseeing!! I know it's been a burden, what with the rain and all Big Grin

Hey guys,

The freezer is basically full...maybe one more salmon would top it off, but at this point, it's no big deal. We have 100# of halibut and about 75# of Sockeye salmon aboard, which should be enough to last the winter and spring, sharing with Texas neighbors of course.

We are leaving our fishing camp in Soldotna on Monday and returning for another two week visit to Kyllonen's in Anchor Point. We'll be in space "G" until we depart for Palmer, Glennallen, and Valdez sometime in the middle of August. Our preliminary plans have us departing Valdez sometime after Labor Day for a slow drive back to the south with stops in Skagway and Hyder to complete our current Alaskan adventure.

We should reenter the Lower 48 (sigh Frown) at Sumas, WA, around the middle of September and then who knows until we reach Texas in early November. Even with all the wet and cool weather, this has been a fantastic journey...and it's not over yet. Smile

We have enjoyed meeting some of you along the way and hope to see others before we all "go outside".

Safe travels,

Gordon and Juanita

Gee I hope some of you plan on going down the Cassier to Hyder before you leave Alaska. That is where you watch the bears fishing for salmon fom a safe place made for people and an awesome glacier that you drive up and over the top of. It was one of the biggest highlights of our trip in '06 and I would hate to see you miss it. There is a great place to stay 1/2 way down called Mountain View (I think). It was the nicest campgound we had the entire trip.

Fred,

NO WAY!!! Big Grin

I will just pinch the barbs and keep fishing. Smile

Actually, we are finished here on the Kenai anyway, so fishing for the Silvers on the Anchor River will be mostly sport fishing, catch and release style. I may keep one or two to grill over an open fire, but the rest can continue upriver to do their thing.

Bill and Helen,

We're definitely taking the Cassiar but may be a bit on the late side for the bears in Hyder. We want to see the Salmon Glacier regardless. It looks like you are having a fantastic time in the northeast.

Safe travels all,

Gordon and Juanita

Hi All,

Hey, how big of a freezer do you need for 175# of fish? Did anyone use a charter for halibut, if so who? and did you like them? One nice thing about following all you guys is getting the good info.....

We will be arriving in Soldotna in a week or so and want to start fishing. Will be there a week and on to Homer and halibut.

We are currently at Denali and will leave here tomorrow.

Like everyone else we are having a great time, but we do need to get some fish.

We will be leaving Alaska headed for home on Sept. 1. We hope to go down the Cassier but weather may change our minds.
