Does anyone know which, if any, campgrounds in Yellowstone can take a 40' motorhome and toad? or any nearby campgrounds recommended

Fishing Bridge RV Park can accommodate a 40'. Full hook up at $39.20 per night. Bridge Bay has a few sites that can accommodate a 40' as well as Grant, Madison and Canyon.

Now the bad news unless you have reservations you will have a hard time finding an open site in the park right now. When are you planning your visit, and for how long?

There are several parks in and around West Yellowstone that can accommodate a 40', but once again if this is something you need in the next few days, you might be out of luck.

Cookie,

You did not say which direction you were coming from? From the North, Mammoth Campground is a first come first serve campground, which based on my conversations with Park staff, memory from when I worked there and the aerial images on google earth can accommodate big rigs. All sites are pull-thru. The first come first serve campgrounds at Indian Creek and Norris also have some sites that can accommodate a 40' RV. During the busy season folks start lining up early to fill the sites as others leave. You may want to go into the park in your toad, cruise the campgrounds, if you find a suitable site throw out a lawn chair or two, pay the fee and go back and get the MH. This is how we have moved from one first serve campground to another within the park during the busy season.

There are a number of Forest Service Campgrounds between Cody and the East Entrance. Rex Hale and Wapiti have sites with electric. Sites can be reserved at Rex Hale, but Wapiti has some first come first serve sites.

Check some previous posts about Yellowstone, I remember a post about a Forest Service campground with electric not far from West Yellowstone that I think "Gambler" stayed in last fall.

According to the Parks website, Grant campground is supposed to open today, they may have had cancellations since I think this was a delayed opening.

Hope you have a Great visit to Yellowstone!!!

Cookie, if you can't find anything in Yellowstone, try here at Valley View RV Park. It is at the eastern end of Island Park, ID. on US 20, 13 miles from the West Yellowstone gate. There is usually people coming and going. Huge sites. $25 bucks a night, FHU. No frills park. I don't what Grizzly is getting in downtown W. Yellowstone, but on US 20 is the KOA (Keep on Adding) and Lionshead. Lionshead has been taken over by the KOA people and are trying to get $40 a night. Valley View 888-558-7443 I believe Bob Hatch has used Valley View also. Several SKP's in here now. Safe travels!

Yellowstone is very busy till Labor Day Weekend and the campgrounds in the park are full much of the summer and the ones outside are also very busy. If you can come just after Labor Day you will have the run of the place. Friends are staying at Grizzly right now in West Yellowstone at $45/night and reportedly the West Yellowstone KOA is $62/night and the wi-fi is $12/day. We feel lucky to have friends with a place for us to camp here in West Yellowstone using an extension cord.
Yellowstone is a destination and fuel prices are not causing any perceived drop in tourists. Our friends have a motel and the summer is booked solid. The only unusual cancellations they have are from people who can't come because their homes are flooded in the Mid-West. No one is canceling rooms because of fuel prices. The national park is very busy.

We are in West yellowstone right now, but have a private hook up, so to speak. RedRock Rv resort, Island Park, ID is a great park, A few miles out of the way, but worth every foot!

Bill,

Have you looked at any of the NFS campgrounds in the West Yellowstone area. Toni and I, along with another couple are planning to visit that area after the Escapade. As I am sure you remember from our Alaska days, we enjoy boondocking and the Gallatin National Forrest looks like there are plenty of opportunities.

Safe Travels...

Roger: We didn't check any of those options out since we had a free campsite at a friend's place. But there are many choices in the national forest and in the park about half of the boondocking campgrounds take no reservations so the early bird gets the campsite.

Hi roger, there is also Henry's Lake state park 15m west of west yellowstone. My brother-in-law used to manage it and it's a nice park. Good cutthroat trout fishing too Big Grin I think there are about 55 spaces there and will take big rigs. Steve
