June, July, and August are the most popular months for travel to Alaska, although the shoulder months of May and September are nice, too...just be aware that not all campgrounds and services will be available during these shoulder months.
Unless you're planning on going via the ferry system, there are very few options for driving to Alaska: **You can take the Alaska Highway all the way from its beginning in Dawson Creek to its official end in Delta Junction. **You can travel up the Cassiar Highway from its beginning in Kitwanga to its end at the Alaska Highway west of Watson Lake (although I'd recommend this trip on the way back in July or August so you can stop in Hyder to watch the bears feed on Salmon at Fish Creek). **You can exit the Alaska Highway at Whitehorse and drive up to Dawson City and then across the Top of the World Highway, coming back to the Alaska Highway east of Tok. As you can see, no matter what the route, at some point or another, you'll be driving the Alaska Highway.
Well, that can take a book to outline everything to see and do on a trip to Alaska! I'd also recommend Mike & Terri Church's book on traveling in Alaska...their descriptions of RV parks will be much more thorough than you can get from the Milepost. Although we didn't have this next item on our last trip, we *will* get it the next time we go to Alaska: Great Alaskan Tour Saver. Although you can purchase it at Carr's grocery stores in Alaska, I'd recommend ordering it before leaving on your trip since there are tours you can take before you ever get to the first Carr's in Alaska. There is tons of info on this forum on going to Alaska, why do you need someone to fill out a survey? A little reading will give you the information that we have all given willingly. Why do we need to do it again in a private survey which won't help anyone but you?

I took a look at your survey and my reaction was a little like Bill's. To answer all those questions I would expect you to at least invite me over for dinner.
Seriously, Here is a link to our trip last year. There is a link from the blog to our photo gallery. We would be happy to answer any specific questions. 2000 Volvo 770, 525HP/1650FP Cummins N14 and 10 Speed Autoshift 3.58 Rear 202" WB, 2002 Teton Aspen Royal 43 Foot, Burgman 400 Scooter |

If you do a search you'll come up with a series of threads entitled "Alaska Bound" which will give you lots of information about things people have liked and disliked as well as links to a variety of blogs by people on their trips to Alaska. I know that we, and I assume others, would be happy to answer specific questions on places we've been.

Thanks for all the comments. Thanks to those who filled out the survey. I thought it would be an easy way to get all the info in one place.
This is such a task, to plan this trip. One does not want to miss anything as it is not like you can go back next year. We will fill out your survey when we return to the lower 48. We are sell in Valdez right now waiting for the rain to stop.
I know one thing for sure with the fuel prices you sure don't have to make reservations anywhere. The RV industry is really hurting up here. Denny Denny & Jami SKP#90175 Winston the Westie Home Base Nebraska |
