Hi. Can anyone tell me the rules regarding work camping when one's not an American. we are Canadians who do a fair amt. of travelling in the US and are considering doing work camping. Since we don't have green cards, anybody know how that works?
thanks. Linda

While I do not know the answer to your question, you might want to consider volunteer positions instead. The benefits of volunteer positions, and the work hours are often greatly superior to commercial workcamping positions, I understand.

Hopintoroam,

Non-US citizens need an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) to be eligible to work legally in the US. You can get information about work authorization and applying for an EAD on the US Citizenship and Immigration Service website (http://www.uscis.gov). Be sure to look at the link for Form I-765 Application for Employment Authorization Document. You may decide that you don't want to go through all that or that you are not eligible.

Volunteering may be the answer, though some places may still require you to be a US citizen or work authorized for insurance purposes. I suppose it depends on where you volunteer and what you'll be doing.

Good luck whatever you decide to do and enjoy your travels in the US.

thanks for the info and suggestions, I do appreciate all the great info & assistance we get from this site. We do so much enjoy the US and plan lots of travelling there, over the next several years. volunteering may indeed be a good option and we may look into that. Thanks again.
