My husband and I are currently volunteering for the National Wildlife Refuges. In searching the internet and other sources, we have discovered that there is no comprehensive database listing the refuges that utilize resident volunteers.

We are building a database to accomplish this. We would like to know of any refuges that use resident volunteers, the site information with info including:

Site size and description, utilities, laundry facilities, satellite view, etc. Contact numbers, location, etc

If you would email me with any information, I would appreciate it.

Once I get settled at Laguna Atascosa NWR, I will try to remember to send you info on that site as well as Anahuac, Pea Island, and Alligator River. That is a huge undertaking for you, but would be great information.

I sent information to Diane on four refuges in December and never heard a word back. I also wonder what happened.

I would say she is busy compiling things in a book, so she can sell it to you later on.

I think that she put it on hold since the USFWS has their own website and there are links to the refuges on it. The current system is to make contact with the regional volunteer coordinator and that person sends on your application.

I use the general refuge listings which also have the email for the refuge manager at all facilities. I just email any manager of a refuge that I happen to be interested in.

One other thing, Dianne is also one of the moderators for RV.NET so she might also be rather busy.

Good travelin !...............Kirk

I spent many, many hours compiling the info. I forwarded it to the person who was going to handle it. I have not heard anything, even after many tries.

I don't know what else to do.
