Lee Bottom Flying Field is looking for a work kamper volunteer for this summer (2008) from mid-August through mid-October. We had a couple lined up to join us this summer but their health issues are causing us to continue the search. Prior to posting on Workamper News and paying the fees to re-join and post a listing, I thought I would post to this site. That way, we can offer our subscription and advertisement fee as a gift of $100 to our 2008 summer volunteer recruited from the Escapees Website to help them offset rising fuel costs associated with travel (offer available for those who contact us prior to July 8, 2008 and who are interviewed and asked to join our “airport family” for the season).
We feel that we offer a unique experience at a privately-owned, public-use grass runway airport. An outdoors person or couple is needed to become involved in our “airport family” with responsibility for “handy man” types of duties. We try to use your expertise and interests as much as possible in our operation but duties may include light maintenance of buildings, tractors, and vehicles, painting, event set-up and clean-up, cleaning, landscaping, grass mowing, etc. (around 20 flexible hours per week) in exchange for FHU (water, sewage, electricity) on scenic location less than 200’ from runway. The airport is currently cared for and owned by a husband (Rich) and wife (Ginger) that live on the airport and have made a commitment to keeping vintage airplanes and their environment (grass runways) alive for the next generation to enjoy. It is a little different from a lot of airports in that it is certified by the FAA as part of the national transportation system but owned by individuals instead of a municipality. Therefore, we receive no funding from outside sources (except occasional donations from those that frequent the airport). We spend more than ½ of our income to keep it up and open up our large yard to the public because we love aviation! Aviation is pretty much our life! It is our hobby! We call everyone that visits and/or participates in its operation our airport family. Therefore, we are looking for a work kamper that at least has an interest in flying, enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle, wants to be involved with the airport and its family of friends, and is a good neighbor. We encourage you to look at our website (www.LeeBottom.com), peruse the website of our neighboring town Madison, Indiana (www.visitmadison.org) and that of your own Kirk Wood (www.adventure.1tree.net/places/in-lee_bottoml.htm). If interested in 2008, please email info@LeeBottom.com with a copy of your resume, references, contact information, and photos of you and rig. Please no 2009 (or beyond) requests until after mid-November. Hope to hear from you and wish you all the best summer! Ginger Davidson |

This is probably one of the most unique and fun places that anyone can volunteer, if you enjoy airplanes! Rides are very available. The summer we spent with Rich & Ginger I flew in at least a dozen different aircraft!
They are great people and it is one fantastic experience! If you want another point of view of the volunteer at Lee Bottom, just visit this page. Good travelin !...............Kirk www.adventure.1tree.net/ Full-time, live on volunteer lifestyle. SKP Life member |

Hi Ginger - we visited with you last summer to take a look at Lee Bottom in hopes that we could work there this summer. Do you remember the couple from Cincinnati with the two Golden Retrievers? One named Ginger?
Unfortunately our fulltiming schedule has been pushed back about 6 months for various reasons. We have not yet sold our home in Ohio either. I was very disappointed when I read that Tony & Pamela could not work with you guys this summer. I sincerely hope you fulfill your needs very quickly. Oh, how I'd love to come and spend a few months at the airport... but I just can't make the schedule fit this year.
BTW, I really enjoy the website. Good luck filling that spot. It'll be a lucky person or people I'm sure. Brian 2004 Glendale Titanium 32E37DS with bug room 2001 Ford F-350 dually with 7.3 Turbo Diesel |

You are on top of our list for places to volunteer in 5 years. DH is a retired A&E mechanic, ASE certified mechanic, and loves to mow. He drools each time I mention your site. Right now he is up to his ears in a hydrogen project or I would send him up to you immediately. Do hope you can find some wonderful couple for this summer. Selma
