*Washer/dryer (option)
***Special note about washer/dryer…we were pleasantly surprised at the size of these units. Larger than what we had seen in other rv’s. The top-loading washer slides out from below the dryer for ease of loading.
*Central vacuum system (option)
*Dual 6VDC Heavy Duty battery system (option)
*17.5” H rated spare tire and carrier (option)
***All tires are heavy duty regroovable type mounted on Alcoa aluminum wheels.

Standard items for the 38RL3 can be seen at:
www.doubletreervsuites.com

*1998 Volvo 770
*Volvo D-12 engine. 425/1550 (hp/torque). Engine dyno’d with no problems noted.
*478,000 miles as verified through ECM
*12+ mpg bobtail; 11 mpg towing (via Information Center)
*2 x 150 fuel tanks
*Eaton-Fuller Straight 10 transmission
***GearMaster Shift computer installed. Computer shows a graphic depiction of speed, rpm, best operating range, gears available for any given speed/rpm, and indicator for best gear choice. This device takes all the guesswork out of shifting a heavy duty transmission. Clutch is only used for starting/stopping. Clutchless shifting is silky smooth when using the shift computer. Only 4 of 10 gears are ever really needed. Start out in 4th then shift through 6th, 8th, and 10th. Two reverse gears.
*Triple air ride. Suspension, cab, and seats.
***Rear suspension can be raised/lowered from inside the cab. This helps when hitching up and eliminates the need to exit the truck to raise/lower the trailer.
*Air slider hitch
***Hitch position can be adjusted from inside the cab. I keep the hitch all the way aft for greater cab/trailer clearance. This also distributes weight better and allows for more items to be carried on the rear deck behind cab.
*Wooden deck behind cab with lock-downs for 4 bikes. An excellent location for large storage box and generator.
*Hayes-Lemmerz air-over-electric brake controller.
***This controller is integrated into truck’s air brake system and allows for use of the truck’s brake lever on dash (Johnson bar). No need to reach down to use the controller’s slider lever. The controller converts air pressure to an electrical signal for the trailer’s brakes. Fully proportional and works with any rv trailer. Great system.
*Fontaine hitch. Double locking jaws. Your trailer isn’t coming loose!
*Rear axles singled-out. Frame shortened and tapered.
***Vehicle foot print is about the same as a long bed 1 ton pickup. Turning radius is outstanding. Much better than any pickup truck on the market. In-town driving is no more difficult than with a pickup.
*Full gauge package with driver information center
*New headlights
*4 new fog/driving lights. Very bright.
*All amber and red lights are LED except for front turn signals. All rear LED lights replaced 6/06. Very bright and have a nice visual effect.
*2 mirror-mounted CB antennas
*TV antenna enclosed in upper fairing
*2 exterior color cameras with sound and night vision.
***1 camera mounted behind cab for hitching up and monitoring trailer while under tow. 1 camera mounted on right side to eliminate blind spot.
*7 inch color monitor with sound, zoom and image reversal. Has connection for 3rd camera.
*New windshield in 2006. Original w/s had a few rock chips. Upper fairing skylight replaced at same time.
*New wiper blades
*$5000 worth of chrome
*Heated and powered mirrors
*Power windows and door locks
*Cruise control
*Heated 6-way seats
*New carpet
*New steer tires good for 120,000 miles. Rear tires have 70% life remaining. Good for many years of typical rv travel.
*Aluminum wheels front/back
*New air dryer
*New fan clutch
*New oil pressure sending unit
*New clutch slave cylinder
*Exterior connections for shore power and engine block heater
*All brakes adjusted 6/06
*Full inspection performed 6/06 by certified diesel mechanic. Clean bill of health. Mechanic commented on excellent condition of truck and couldn’t believe it was a ’98.
*2 stage engine brake. Very effective. No need to white-knuckle any mountain pass in the US ever again.
*20 inch flat screen tv. Operates off inverter and can be used while truck is in motion.
*Fridge. 3 cu ft, 12 volt so it can be operated on battery power when engine is off.
*Microwave. Operates off inverter and can be used while truck is in motion.
*Dinette/workstation in rear cab. Dinette easily lowers to form large lower bed (2 person)
*Large upper bunk (2 person)
*4 windows (rear cab) with crank-out glass and screens. Black-out curtains for windows.
*Black out privacy curtain between front and rear cab
*Motorhome style wrap-around curtains in front cab
*Multiple electrical outlets in rear cab
*Separate heat/air/lighting controls in rear cab
*2 closets and numerous storage areas throughout front/rear cab
*2 lockable exterior storage areas on sides of cab
*Excellent ergonomics and outstanding ride comfort
*Very quiet cab
*Oil changed and all 3 oil filters replaced 4/08
*Fuel filter/water separator replaced 4/08
*Complete chassis lube 4/08
*Air conditioning system serviced and recharged 4/08
*$39,000

Disclosure:
*There’s a small dent in the front bumper that was there when I bought the truck. I thought I would replace it but it’s so minor that I felt it wasn’t worth wasting money on. *Seat covers on original leather seats.
*The mechanicals are excellent and you can see from the pics in Webshots (via link in signature) that it looks pretty impressive.

Will sell separately only if trailer sells first. Contact me via Private Message here or jbbdc@hotmail.com

Brian,
I've never pulled our Mobile Suites with a 1 ton. We bought the Volvo specifically for that trailer.

You might be referring to the Dodge seen pictured with the Volvo. That truck was used to pull a travel trailer we had previous to the Mobile Suites.

Thanks for being a flight engineer and managing the fuel panel and engine gauges! Gave guys like me more time to watch the pretty clouds go by.

I have received some inquiries from a couple people saying that they thought my combo had already been sold. They read a post from a guy who said he bought it and was thrilled.

That's true. I had a contract with a husband/wife who were going to fulltime with it. They ran into some family problems and backed out.

It really is back on the market. Take a look at the description, the pics, and ask any questions. If interested, use my posted price as a starting point and make an offer. Thanks.

Good afternoon. What clearance is needed for this truck? I am not clear on what the new price is for this truck. Do you have any photos of the interior?
Thanks

JMB -

For the clearance check out the HDT forum sticky for information I believe it is in that thread somewhere. Off the top of my memory I think it is 13' 4".

As far as price new a quick check on 2008 VNL64T780 (which replaced the 770) I came up with a range of $120,000 - $135,000, from looking at a few VNL730's a year or so ago I would imagine prices haven't changed that much in the last few years.
