By the way, especially on this Memorial Day more GRATITUDE than can be expressed verbally to Scott and his wife for their devotion to and sacrifices for our country.

Well depending on when our house sells (going on the market in the early summer of 2009), we may be in the class of '09 as I plan on retiring before the end of Oct in '09... just won't hit the road until 2010. My current 5er will hold us over from Oct to Jan until we get a newer (bigger) one..

Us too. We are waiting for kids' high school graduation in May of 2009 and we're off. Doing all the research, getting educated on the possibilities/opportunities out there. See ya soon.

I took our first "official" step towards FT in '09 by joining Escapees... Now we are seriously looking for somewhere to base out of in TX as soon as we depart this area... of course, first stop will be Livingston to establish residency again... this return to TX (as residents) will be my 4th and her 2nd. Our next trip out will be in Oct of this year and we have lined up a few places to look at as well as going to the Co-op in Hondo for a visit. The waiting list is long there, but after we retire, time won't enter the equation a lot...

Our date is May 2009. I am excited, anxious and a little scared.
Like everyone else we are getting our house ready to either sell or rent. We'll have to see what the market is doing in a year or so.
Like everyone else said, these almost two years will surly fly by!
If it weren't for the cost of health insurance we would be on the road NOW!

Well looks like the class of 09 is getting larger. I for one am still in Afghanistan, but my target date to start is somewhere around May of 09.

My house is currently rented, but will have to decide later if I want to keep renting it or just sell it.

I am curious, what type of camper is everyone thinking of using during their fulltime adventure? Wife and I are buying a 2006 Mobile Suites 38RL3. To pull it with we are also getting a Volvo 770 (HDT). How about the rest, what are your plans???

My short list of 5er's is down to Carriage's Carri-lite/Cameo, KZ Montego Bay, Heartland Landmark, Newmar Torrey Pine/Cypress and a couple of others I can't remember right now... all depends on how much money I clear from the house and contents (don't want to touch my 401k unless I have to)... the weight of the 5er will determine the truck I guess... probably looking at some kind of MDT for sure...

Wow, what happened to everyone, the thread seemed to die off, I know 09 is a little ways off, but we all have a lot to do and think about before then. We should all stay in touch through this thread, heck one persons comment my trigger something we didn't think about and it'll help us all.

Ok, my 2 cents are over, hope to start hearing from all soon.

I started this topic and since then it looks like we may not be able to retire in 2009. We also have our doubts about full timing. Extended periods of time such as 2 to 3 months yes, maybe even somewhat of a snow bird type situation but in our case travel April to Oct. then back home in NC to spend the holidays & winter months with our kids & grandkids. I'll be watching the rest of y'all though.

M&M... we are in the same boat.. we are shooting for '09 but may well slip into 2010...but we are forging ahead with the target date of sometime after my 65th b'day (Oct of '09) as being the day we retire... I think I said in an earlier post we may not actually pull up stakes and hit the road until 2010, but might well be living in my current 5er if the house sells faster than I expect.. so in one case or the other we will be fulltiming... just may be in our seasonal spot for a bit...

There are always so many things that have to fall into place unless you are just extremely wealthy (which we aren't).. as they say.."timing is everything".. House to sell, contents to sell, new truck to buy, new 5er to buy, plus all the "normal" things to be done in getting retirement funds lined up.. Social Security, company retirment, 401ks.. (luckily I am retired USAF so medical is not another thing that I have to add to the list).. moving to another state, establishing residence, mail fowarding, etc, etc, etc... so 2009 or 2010 is just around the corner when you look at the tasks to be accomplished...

You're right this has sort of died out...actually now we'll be Dec. '09 but STILL '09, not '10. Reading like crazy and checking out every 4 & 5 star 5th wheel we can find.

We're in Blanco, TX between Austin & San Antonio as one of us works in each city. Let us know if you're ever coming this way would love to get together.

Ahh, San Antonio, one of our Fav towns, Sheryl has a brother in Austin, should we take a trip that way, will give you a holler.

Seems most people are geting rid of stuff, we are gathering stuff to use during fulltiming. We will be towing a Jeep Wrangler to explore the back country. Geting it set up with roof racks to carry the Kayaks we bought. Also picked up a folding picnic table for those boondocking times. Basicly figured if we start picking up things little by little, wont have to try and buy all at once. Will sell all our stuff as time grows nearer.

Guess we are just a backwards couple....lol

Take care all
Kev
