Like I said in a previous post out of either 73 or 93(can't remember which) 55 plus parks in the area, the list on the review certainly doesn't include many. Several on the list are on frontage roads of I-8, so if you are in the front areas of these parks, traffic noise could be a factor. Another thing I noticed on the list was several that are very near Union Pacific RR tracks. And they have trains and more trains. They love to blow their horns the most during snowbird season. Most 55 plus parks in the Yuma area don't even bother with advertising or internet sites. One outfit that does is Encore Parks, which I think has five parks in the area. Sunni-Sands decsription says nothing about being at the end of the runway of Yuma Marine Corps Airstation. Harriers, F-14, and commercial aircraft, since this is a shared airstrip with Yuma International Airport, this makes for great defense training, but I don't think I need to hear it 24/7. Like all reviews, it is very flawed in my opinion.

Thanks bobsallyh. As you point out there are a number of 'gotchas' and using the reviews to make a decision is certainly fraught with risk. I am open to suggestions. Many have stated that it's best to wait until arrival and personally inspect before making a decision. While there is merit to that advice, it ignores the fact that the best parks will long since have filled. As an example, I tried to make a reservation at Del Pueblo RV Park & Tennis Resort based upon my own evaluation and the recommendation above by Jack Mayer. They stated they were full and had a long waiting list. As mentioned, I am certainly open to any ideas about selecting a park for Dec 1 - Mar 1 sight unseen. By the way, here are some of the things In addition to the reviews, I evaluate:
location on Google Earth and Streets & Trips
    Woodall rating
    Travel Life rating
    Distance to grocery stores
    Pictures (if available)
Availability of desired amenities (eg, pool, hottub, club house, WiFi, etc)
    Price
    Deposit and cancellation terms

Paroots, boy I am I ever glad you didn't take me negetively. After I posted that, I thought maybe I would come across the wrong way. Just trying to keep folks from getting burnt! The list on your above post, beware, and I can't speak for other places, but most 55 plus parks in Yuma aren't even listed in Trailer Life and Woodals. Two of the biggies on that list are the last two. Check to see if golfing is included in the price etc. And deposit and cancellation terms are huge. I've seen numerous folks get ripped off on that last line. You do your homework very well!

Hi,

We have wintered in Yuma for the last few years. We now just rent an RV space on a lot, in the foothills, with full hook-ups but no pools etc.

Our first couple of years, we stayed at Fortuna de Oro in the foothills 14 miles east of Yuma itself. The park/resort has all the extras including a golf course, restaurant, etc. This park has in excess of 1100 spaces and last year they didn't look like they were totally full at any time. The foothills area is like a small town itself. With shopping, Wal-Mart, restaurants, etc.

With the price of fuel this year we feel there will be fewer "snowbirds" than normal. We wouldn't make any long term commitments/reservations until we got down there, if we were you. JOHO

Keep makin' happy tracks,

Bob T

Hey Paroots, I think your choice to go to Yuma is a good one. We also live in Alb and have been debating Texas or AZ. We have not decided as yet although we visited Yuma and did a little research. I have a friend in Harlingen. We can connect with her and have a lot of questions answered before we get there. Still do not know where we will end up. I suspect we will get to Las Cruces and flip a coin.

Hello Phil:
Thanks for the note. The weather in Yuma sounds great. We debated between TX and AZ, but we do prefer the drier climates. Also, the fact that we can go to the MX beaches from Yuma tipped the balance. We may still go to TX next winter. We're still researching RV parks. We are disappointed that Del Pueblo RV filled up. We haven't found another that looks as nice for comparable price, but we're still looking. We want a park with amenities and activities. We are staying at American RV Park in Albuquerque for the entire month of September. We will then spend 2 months (ie, Oct & Nov) making our way from Albuquerque to Yuma. Most of that time will be spent between Bullhead City and Yuma. We hope to make good use of our C2C membership during that time. BTW, we don't live in Albuquerque, but do have family in Albuquerque and Colorado so it's one of our regular stops. At the moment, we're in Golden, CO

American RV is good, we had some friends stay there. Del Pueblo is nice. Like you said the dryer climate is nice. There is something about the ocean that attracts me. Perhaps growing up in Alb has something to do with it. We are staying at Coronado Village near Paseo del Norte and I25. We are planning to move to Moriarty in a couple weeks and will finish the year out there. We may winter there or just stay through Christmas to be with family. Keep us posted as to your travels as we seem to be on the same road.

We are hoping to reserve a spot in Yuma, AZ for the Dec 1 - Mar 1 timeframe. We have narrowed our choice down to Desert Paradise RV Resort, Shangri-La RV Resort, or Villa Alameda RV Resort. The last one was not reviewed. We can't seem to get too excited about any of them. We favor parks with lots of amenities and activities. Anyone have any comments good or bad about these three or possibly others we haven't considered?

If we can't make a decision, the default will to wait until our arrival on Dec 1st. However, we fear that the best parks will be full if we wait.

Just in case none of the choices were to our liking for a long term stay, I'd want to be sure I could cancel out and receive a refund. This was the case for us at Fortuna De Oro last winter...it was not where I wanted to spend the entire winter...too dusty and dirty...so after 30 days we moved to a private lot in the Foothills where we had one half of a 65x195 fenced, gated and graveled FHU lot....for less money. No pool, no activity room, no laundry, no WIFI, no free cable, no socializing, no neighbors 5' from our rig ....but that suited us just fine. If I were to visit Yuma for the first time, I'd secure a spot for at least 30 days in a park that had the amenities I was looking for, then spend that 30 days exploring every option that Yuma has to offer...it'll take 30 days. Then I'd either move to the place of my choice or make firm reservations for next year.

Thanks gemstone. I like your idea. It's a nice compromise between arriving without any reservations and taking potluck at whatever is available vs committing for the entire winter sight unseen. I'll definitely negotiate this with any park we find.
