Wow, I am getting confused a bit. Would you be able to suggest good rv camping states about South Carolina where winter freezing temperatures aren't common.? I have the impression that camping is common in the interior states were as there are RV communities on the coast where people stay for several of the winter months. Am I all wet?

Our plan this year is to go through the winter
in NC(near the coast).. while this isn't permanent its cost effective for us right now. Looks like plenty of folks stick around year round here. 40' Newmar Mountainaire DP |

If you would like a rural country setting at a “Mom & Pop’ run place we can recommend this one ( http://www.countrysideresort.com/index.html ). We always stop here when headed east or west on I40. It’s a nice half way stop for us when heading to Memphis. They have lots of extra space but I don’t recall seeing a RV storage area. I know they have seasonal sites on the pond but don’t know the rental rate . All sites are very high and dry but we have never been there in cold weather - we never go up over the mountains into TN in the winter time.

There has been a truism that says, if you want to avoid freezing temps, you must stay South of Interstate 10. It has worked for me. Your experience may vary. Good luck.

We spent this past winter in Raleigh in the RV but it was not a particularly harsh one. No ice storms, no freezing rain or snow and no below zero temps at all, even with wind chill.
However, we have had some winters here that have been real killers in all those ways and it would have been kinder to move north than in this boundary land of the Piedmont of North Carolina. In most cases, coastal areas are going to be milder than inland areas but they are also going to be more bone chilling if it gets really cold because of the penetrating humidity on the ocean. Myrtle Beach, SC is great for winter. Lots of RV space at good rates. Lots to do. Very mild winters.
Why not try Escapee park in Summerdale, Al? Lovely park, lovely area, great rates and great people. Mild winter as well. Mona The worth of a day |

I'm not quite sure what you are asking, but if you are thinking of places frequented by RV folks in the winter months, the states from Florida to southern California are all fairly common for winter roosting, with Florida, Texas & Arizona the leaders and scattered locations in the others. The mid-west has a lot of RV parks but the majority of them do close in winter, just as most do farther north. Construction people are the majority of RV residents of the colder locations. Extreme cold makes great difficulty for both the RV park and the RV owner. Good travelin !...............Kirk www.adventure.1tree.net/ Full-time, live on volunteer lifestyle. SKP Life member |

Brian,
This website will give you some idea of the temperature extremes to expect. You have to click on the boxes for extreme highs and lows to see them. I pulled up the one for Charleston since I know you've mentioned that location. http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/gr...USSC0051?from=search SKP92602 Chevy 2500, Maxlite 26RK The one that dies with the most toys is still dead! |

Where do I locate interstate # 10?
It is not that we want to avoid freezing weather. Our trailer dealer says that after 3 to 4 days of freezing we might have a problem with our water system. We are cold weather people so we are used to it. Our pipes may not be. The mid and Southern states will offer us a chance to meet and to interact whicn I do mot want to miss because of spilled water so to speak Regards Brian Regards Brian

Look at a map. Stay south of the state lines that seperate North & South Carolina, North carolina & GA, TN & GA, TN & Alabama, etc. This will basically put you, Northernmost, in area with overnight freezes... occasionally.
