I'm pretty sure AVG would rather SELL you a version than give it away. So they are kinda obtuse about where the free version is located, you have to look for it, and I think their e-mail tends to imply that you need to buy an updated version. Can't really blame them for trying to make a living, but applaud that they still have a free version.
If you wanna be real radical, dump Windoze and switch to Linux and live happily ever after!

Now have it on my machine. Add/remove shows it as 8.0. During download and installation it said it was removing the old version and it does not show in add/remove but the short cut icon is still on the screen for the old version (new 8.0 short cut icon also there) so I guess I can just remove it.
At start of down load I chose to have it saved to my documents so can I now remove that from my documents or must I leave it there forever?

I pretty sure you will have to leave it there because during the install procedure, pointers are put into the registry that point to the installed directory. You could try to move, and if it didn't work after that, move it back and uninstall and reinstall it. |

Just ran a scan with my AVG 8
Wow! Right at 4 hours. Found 480 but said only 1 was a threat.
