Let us know what operating system your using and type of computer. What kind of printing will fit the bulk of your needs? Photos or text, or a mix of both. It's not necessarily the cost of the printer, but the supplies you will need.

I have an HP C5180 which I am very pleased with. I don't know current model equivalents or prices but check around. You won't be unhappy.

Oh, don't fret over a 'refurbished' unit. They work just fine. That is all I have ever gotten from HP and have never been disappointed.

I'm using an HP 4380 wireless, $99, can copy direct from printer, accepts a variety of memory cards to print pics directly.

Takes up less space than previous Epson, prints well. Ink costs are acceptable.

Has worked well for me.

Good Luck with your choice.

I bought the 9300 kodak all in one , and it is with out a doubt the best printer for all uses i have ever had, also the ink is half the cost of any of the other printers i have had. it even has a seperate paper rack for doing just photos on kodak photo paper. or a regular tray for normal printing.

One note on wireless, you have to configure it for each wi-fi you use. On a public wi-fi the printer will be available to everyone else on the wi-fi. If you use your own satellite or datacard wi-fi most of the time this is not much problem.

Here's another "yea" for Kodak printers. Forget the purchase price, it's the refill expense where they make their money -and- as already stated, it is half the cost of other brands.

I have the 5100 All-in-One and is definitely the best printer I ever owned.

Sorry, but I'm going to play the contrarian in this discussion.
Unless you absolutely need the photos in an instant or your location prohibits delivery, I would not print my own photos. The cost of the printer, quality ink & quality paper just don't make good economic sense. There are many, many vendors out there, online and brick, who can do better job for le$$.
I taught photography in a high school for 29 years---the last 7 were digital. I tried 'em all. You really can't compete. JMHO.

NH2. That is my experience also. When my last photo printer died about 5 years ago, I started using the vendors. Now I can wait the few hours or a day to get a print. Mostly they are for wall hanging in my trailer. Everything else is emailed as JPG or better.

I have been using, repairing and installing computers for about 20 yrs. I have found HP to be the best for my use. I agree with NH2 and texnomad, don't try to buy a photographic printer. If I want a good photo I take my jump drive to Wal-Mart and make what I want. I am using an HP 4100F which will print nice photos but I mainly use it to print out documents and maps. This printer has a flat bed scanner and I use it to keep medical records for us and our fur kid, and anything else we wish to keep. I try to keep very little paper documents.

If I were going to get another printer I would get one that is wireless so I did not have to hard wire it to my computer. I use a secure wireless network so I am not worried about someone using my printer.

My old HP died recently, and I knew that the newer models have little tiny ink cartridges which is "where they get you", so I took a trip to the Salvation Army and Christian Women's Ctr. and bought two 940C HPs for 4.99 ea. Both work beautifully and they have the old larger ink cartridges. Just a thought...I saw some on ebay for 14 and 15.00 each. You might be interested in a used one.....cheap.

I have spent hundreds of dollars on printers and ink and have never been totally satisfied with my "home made" prints. If you are near any decent sized city you will have a choice of several stores that allow you to email your photo to them and the print(s) will be ready by the time you get in the car and drive to the store. WalMart, Walgreens and many other stores with a photo lab provide this service at a very reasonable price.

We recently purchased an HP photosmart C4385 printer -scanner - copier that also does great photo prints
Its really nice to be able to scan, copy etc when needed, plus it has a wireless capability as well to allow connection to other computers

Don't remember the price but it was quite cheap

Like you, I feel a multi-function machine that can print, scan, & copy matches the RV lifestyle very well.
Though the cost of the printer is inviting, I don't believe it to be economically sound for printing photos.
Do I print photos on my multi-function printer? I sure do, but only if I must have the print instantly. As indicated in my previous post,I wouldn't recommend it to fill a photo album.
JMHO,
Mark

We went the other way and got a small Brother 5250-DN laser printer for our use, it prints nicer, output is waterproof and it does double sided. We kept our HP inkjet and it is still still sitting here hooked up but I haven't printed anything on it for a year or so. Costco or Sams do all our photo work and I just don't need color for anything else.
